OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Thanks Tracey! What was the time duration of the ceremony and boarding the bus? So glad you shared to stay! I’m sure I’ll cherish that extra time also!

DebMomof3- My son left August 5th and we were allowed to stay for the whole thing at MEPS, but once they got on the bus to go to the airport, that’s where it ends. They will also tell you under NO circumstances are you to follow the buses to airport too. They were VERY adamant about that! A lot of parents left after the swearing in, but I recommend staying till he gets on the bus. I will cherish that one last wave and “I love you” forever❤️

When my son takes his Oath and leaves for boot camp, are parents allowed at Troy or the airport to see them off?

I saw the Navy Dad Surprise on the News and teared right up! I agree - everyone needs to see this and every single reunion.

WaterLily - we did a sunset cruise at Pictured Rocks, Drove all over Copper Harbor, did some off roading up above the start of US41 :) and then wandered back down home. It was so much fun and very relaxing!

B'sNukeMoM - just in Lansing, Haslett and Okemos there's tons to do! Let alone the rest of the state. You might have to plan on visiting for a month :)

SubMom, the Keeweenaw Peninsula is a magical part of Michigan!  We love it up there.  In fact, my husband and I spent part of our honeymoon up there (Copper Harbor) 23 years ago.  We really need to get back and take our daughter.  I will never forget going sea kayaking and listening to the loons and feeling the very slight vibrations in the water as a big lake storm was brewing and moving closer to shore.  Michigan has so many wonderful areas to explore.

Awwww, such wonderful coverage of a Navy dad greeting his kids at their schools.  Tears of joy!  These stories really need to keep circulating....for all Americans to see the commitment and sacrifice all military families make.

I haven't been on here for a minute - we were on vacation up in the Keewenaw Peninsula a couple of weeks ago and then last weekend spent the day at Communiversity at WMU followed by a whole day at the Muskegon Irish Festival. I had to come back to work just so I could rest :)

WaterLily - congrats to your son! I hope he enjoys Pensacola. I loved growing up there - lots to do! I hope you get to visit soon!

B'sNukeMoM - love the pictures from the engagement party! Sounds like you had a great time with family.

I'm glad everyone made it safely through the storms - we somehow missed all of it in our area. It seemed to split and go around us.

Well, Friday Eve is here. I hope everyone has a great weekend!
