Hey Cheri - I live in Atlanta now but grew up in Michigan and all of our family is there so I bop between both states.

You may want to check out Molly's Adopt a Sailor on this site. We have adopted 250 sailors on the USS Rodney M. Davis this holiday as they will be deployed for Christmas.

Donna, DEP is the Delayed Entry Program, it seems like almost everyone enters the Navy that way anymore. They test at MEPs and depending on their test scores, they will make recommendations to them on what would be the best jobs for them and when those job openings are available. The Navy has done a really good job hitting their recruitment #s so alot of rates are not available to just say - I want that job and leave the next day. Also during their DEP time, they will work with their recruiter on physical as well and other items that may allow them to go into boot camp as an E2 vs an E1. Our son had to meet with the recruiter at least once a month while waiting to report. Have you asked your son what the plan ?

Donna, did your son go in under the DEP program? He should know his enlistment date and if it is under DEP he could have many months before he reports. Our son was in DEP for eight months and that is not ususual.

My daughter left October 7th and arrived in GL on the 8th. I've rec'd 2 letters so far. She is in DIV 903 SHIP 06 and PIR is 12/5. She originally wanted to do Physical Therapy Tech, but would have had to wait until 2009, so she chose DC - Damage Control, after looking at her other options. Katie is very excited.

I can not remember if it was this group. But some one asked about the Rack Packs. My son Just e-mailed me about not sending one at this time because of too many thefts on board... That is too bad, they are all going to be together for 7 months and should respect each other and there personal property.... I just hope he is able to keep his things safe.
