Hi everyone, I just joined this group. I live in Troy and my son is in his 4th wk of Boot Camp. Still waiting for that first phone call but I think his wife will probably get that. I'm happy with my 1st letter! I drive a school bus in Troy so I am home today with a snow day! My son's PIR is Apr 2nd...can't wait!

Checked out the www.diveheart.com site and they do wonderful work! Maybe I should tell my nephew about it when he gets back from his overseas class in New Zealand/Australia. He is in the National Guard and he is a certified diver. Currently Noah is working on his rescue diver certification.

Thank you, Jeanne. He isn't shipping out for Diego Garcia until May, 2010. Yes, Diego Garcia is VERY remote and far away. Plus, it is an Air Station that takes up the whole island so that it is not possible to go 'visit' as a tourist. He isn't looking forward to leaving his family for the year, except he is excited to be able to be doing his job for the Navy. Allen is in San Antonio, TX for 3 mths completeing Dog Training School and that has been tough on them already. He is really enjoying it, but being away from a new wife, who just found out she is pregnant, and a new step-daughter is tough. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. If your son does get stationed at Diego Garcia, you will have to have him look up Allen if they are there at the same time.

Erica, you have every right to brag about your Sailor. We have all been there or are going to be there. We expect it and love to hear it! Ruth VH is right, you will find yourself making moments to talk about the Navy and your son. I do all the time and it has been 2 years Oct 2007 when my son PIR'd. It is something you will always treasure and never forget. Enjoy it all you can.

Joellen it is always hard to see a loved one suffer. You & your family are in my prayers.

Uli, so happy to hear that your husband is so much better. You all are still in my prayers.

Just want to update everyone on my son, Allen. He married on Dec 15, 2009 and now is going to be making me a grandmother for the 5th time in September, 2010. This is going to be his first biological child. When he married, his wife (my DIL) already had a daughter from her first marriage. We are all so very excited and thrilled! He is going to be overseas stationed at Diego Garcia when she delivers, but pray that he will be allowed to come home for the birth.

Also, update on my SIL, Luke, who is in the AF. He is still currently flying back and forth from Florida, S. Carolina, N. Carolina and Haiti with supplies and medical trips. Please pray for their safety. Thank you!

My daughter Katie had a cell phone one she started A school at GL. Would think it would be the same in CA - but you might want to check. It was nice that she was able to e-mail and such too. Although I missed writing all the letters.

Ruth & Uli,
I'm praying for Uli's husband Emil and believe that he will be healed. Please let us know how he's doing when you're updated.

Ideaner & the 3dsmom - My daughter went thru BC 10/8/08. I love to write letters, so that is what I did just about every day. Katie love receiving the letters and reading them. I sent her some pictures and a few newspaper clippings as well. That's what helped me cope with BC best. Once we rec'd the letters and dates for graduation, then the planning and excitement can begin. Now she is serving in Japan for 3 years. What rate are you sons going for?

Ruth...thanks for explaining. I should have known that, we used to ship horses all over the country. Pretty much the same process.
I'll bet Chris will be happy to get his own wheels! I know Troy was excited when he finally got his. Not that he gets to drive it much, he bought it about 3 years ago and it has less than 10000 miles on it.
