I didn't go to swearing in either.  I didn't know that we could.  I think he thought it would be easier on him if we weren't there.

This morning I get to spend a little time with my son.  We're planning to have lunch together and then I drop him off at the recruiting station.

MN Mom of MM, I found it interesting that the second time my sailor came home on leave, he went out of his way to spend time with us.  He arranged to come to our work for lunch, he made sure that he was around when we were around, and would do other things when my husband and I were at work.

NavyMomx3, we didn't go to the swearing in either.  My son never said anything, and we were not aware of being able to go.  I think that he also felt "grown up" and wanted to do it himself.  Of course, he probably didn't want me to cry in front of others  :)

Am in a little bit of a slump tonight.  Woke up about 4:30 this morning to head to the airport with our sailor.  Boy did those 10 days go fast.  It seems like if he wasn't out with friends, he was here with friends.  Not much 1 on 1 time.  But he is back in SC and I think this was a life lesson.  It was in about the 5th text he said "...can you guys come down again soon?  I feel bad about not seeing you two more."    I think we are going to have to do a lot of Skype.

NavyMomx3 - That is the best surprise ever, an unexpected visit! I'm a teacher and would love him to just "show up" in my room. I would bawl of course, but how cool would that be!! Glad you got a nice surprise.

MNSunshine - I would highly suggest going to the swearing in. We went to both and I wouldn't have missed it for the world. At the one before leaving for boot camp I ended up standing right behind him and to hear him loud and clear was wonderful. I also got a picture of him hugging my good-bye, one of my favorite pictures. They allow pictures after the ceremony.

Our youngest has a soccer tournament on the 14th but we don't know the times yet. Once I know, I'll RSVP. Chili's is a good spot in my opinion.

My youngest son has been in the Navy for just about 2 years.  He left the day after Mother's Day 2 years ago.  We did not go to his swearing in ceremony.  Actually all three of them said they were 'grown up' and moving on.  Hearing how some of you attended this special occcassion kind of makes me sad that we missed out on theirs.

I already have luncheon plans on the 14th of May with my Red Hat Society Chapter; I am the queen of the chapter.  We'll be having a Mexican luncheon but not at Chili's.  Sorry I have to pass on this one.

Yes, I did hear about Bin Laden.  What news!  My #2 Navy son said it was the Navy Seals that were involved in this.

MNSunshine, You are at the right place.  We are here to support each other.

Julie, I will miss you (again), but your father and husband are a good excuse.

Are you all listening to the news that Bin Laden is dead?

Good evening, my new and dear friends.  My son leaves for basic this week.  A week ago Saturday, I hosted a send-off party for him.  On Tuesday, he got engaged.  It has been a roller-coaster of emotions this week.  I have seen very little of him and miss him dearly already.  His father and I are divorced and it has brought up a lot of old hurts as well as some new ones.  I'm just hoping and praying I do the right things this week.  Advice is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
