It all depends. You will learn soon if Nick is grad n go. If so, you can get a pass to sit with him at the airport until he leaves. That doesn't happen a lot, but it's possible.
Or, he could have Cinderella leave on the weekend, meaning he can go with you within the 50 mile radius, but has to report back each night ON TIME.
Or, he could have both Cinderella leave and one day of duty.
They try as much as possible to give them the leave with family with the early evening returns. Just be prepared for any situation.
We are proud of your future sailor and send our hugs to him and to the family.
You will not believe the change in your son when you see him at PIR! It is an awesome experience.
Our son graduated boot camp in April of this year. We got Friday with him until 8:00pm. They shipped him to the airport Sat. morning but his flight didn't leave until 4:00pm. We were able to meet him at the airport, go thru security with him and spend the day with him there. It was nice to spend another whole day with him! He still has not been home since he left for boot camp at the beginning of Feb. He is finished with A school and is getting ready to start his technical training in San Diego. He is asking for leave in Aug. We are looking forward to having him home for a few weeks but you learn quickly not to count on anything being sure until it happens. There are always changes in the Navy. You learn to be flexible.
We are also from KC. Where are you located? We are up north near the airport.
Good luck with your experience with Nick in the Navy! I will be happy to answer any questions you have that I have had experience with.
