OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. There are now tickets issued, and there are no longer parking passes for PIR.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

Hi Ladies,

Any suggestion on when it's safe to buy your plane tickets for graduation?

Thanks!

It’s a gamble for sure!  I currently have two sets of plane tickets traveling home from power school graduation in Oct.  Albany to home & Charleston to home!  Of course I didn’t plan it that way but the Navy happens.  My biggest tip is to always buy the trip insurance (I usually do and thought I’d save a few dollars this time - didn’t happen)!

Stephanie - the timing is up to you but I agree with Annie Lee - buy trip insurance or fly Southwest like we always do.  That way you can make changes for no extra fees (unless the ticket itself costs more).  And if you end up not using the ticket you have 1 year from the DATE OF PURCHASE to re-use the ticket (and it cannot be transferred to someone else).

I just looked and saw your PIR is 10/26 - I'd start looking into booking flights now.....

My daughter went to BC on 10/11. Her PIR should be 12/7. Should I wait for her letter to book anything or start booking now?  If I book now how do I know how many people are allowed?  Thanks for all the help!!

Bugsmom, You do need to wait until you receive the Form Letter. That is really the only way you have to know when her graduation date is.

There will be four guests allowed at her graduation on December 7th. If she ends up in the training group for November 30th, she will be allowed three guests due to fourteen divisions graduating that day.

Sigh, ok..insert foot stomp,  Thanks!!!  :)
