OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. There are now tickets issued, and there are no longer parking passes for PIR.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

Mrs76peeps that's great! My daughter reenlisted last fall, she plans on making the Navy a career. I got to go on the Tiger Cruise last year, that was pretty incredible.

Small world, JayDee659.

My daughter and I got to tour the ship at the Homecoming last August. It was a great experience. I think that really solidified her decision to enlist.

29 degrees here!  looks like a long hard winter.  frost/freeze already.  4 more days and I can relax :)

mrs76peeps, yes she is.  I work with a gentleman whose BIL is a chaplin on the Bush too.  How weird is that?

JayDee659, is your daughter on the G.H.W Bush? My brother is a Corpsman on that ship.

Bugsmom, I think "moments" is a perfect description. It gets better.

Welcome Dorene and Bugsmom.

You probably have a million questions or you are still to shocked to even know what to ask. There is no such thing as a stupid question on the crazy Navy journey. Ask away, we promise not to laugh (unless of course, you are funny). :-) Staying in contact with moms who have "been there" really helps.

Bugsmom, anything other than standard letter size in a white envelope can draw attention and she may have to open it in front of everyone.  You might consider splitting up the letters into several envelopes and number both the letter and envelope so she knows which order to open them in.  Truth of the matter is that she's probably fine, no news is good news.  That may sound like a saying, but in the Navy you need to embrace it for reality.  There was just a fatality on my daughter's ship and I was praying that my phone didn't ring until after they announced that the family had been contacted.  Missing them is always a thing.  Nothing makes me happier than to hear my daughter's ring tone, which lets me know she's using her own phone from someplace.

Hang in there, it will get better!

Welcome Bugsmom!  I think it’s like grieving over the loss of a loved one. No one can ever say or do the right thing to take that grief away. We have all been there!  That box has more meaning than anyone will ever understand!  Hugs!

Hello all, Am new to all this.  My daughter left for BC last Thursday and I have....moments.  It's ok, I know it's normal.  unfortunately we live in a very rural retirement area and I get the consoling older person that wants to assure me she is ok.  I get that but after a while it just gets to be much.  Does that make sense??  Anyway, counting the days for the "box" and have already been writing her, her first letter will be thick.  Hope that's not a problem.... Graduation is 8 weeks from the date she went in???

Thanks all!!!
