dmj, welcome!  My daughter had hair that she could sit on and she decided to have it cut before boot camp.  She was scheduled to be in GL during the winter and the stories she was hearing from other females was that they showered in the evening and their hair was still wet in the morning.  In cold weather their hair would freeze and my girl was not about to have frozen hair.  She has since grown it back out.  The Navy now allows them to wear a pony tail in the fleet, but it cannot touch their shoulders.

I agree with Oleander, if she wants to get it cut, do it at home, right before she leaves.  Navy barbers are not great.  My daughter suggests a blunt cut right above chin line (so it doesn't get too long during BC and need to be cut by the Navy).  Blunt will grow out easier than pixie cut layers.

Hi dmj, welcome!

My daughter was one of the 1st females in a pilot program that allowed recruits to keep their hair long, that was 2015 and her hair is still long today. There are requirements for the size of a regulation bun. You might want to check before she goes to basic and have a few inches cut off, that way she won't be at the mercy of the barbers and will be in compliance day 1!

I am new and am wondering about the long hair-my daughter doesn't want to cut it-are they supposed to wear it up during basic and what is the best way to do so?thanks!

Yeah for Patchi, doing the Happy Dance for you. My daughter got deadly sick after all those shots!  Ended up in the hospital, they told her she was pregnant, she told them Impossible!  Then they told her she had cancer....But she's a fighter just like your girl.  I will add her to my Prayers.  HUGS

Hey Mom's!  Got my first letter!!!  Totally cracked me up. First sentence is "Hi, Please know I'm in absolute hell".  :) :)  I should be getting a call this week; I'll assume on Sunday.  Said she was sick after she got all the shots but didn't let anyone know.  She did end her letter asking for praying for strength to survive and wasn't leaving without a fight.  That's my girl!

HoneyLemonTea, get use to it, how true!  But they only make us females look better. :)

They all arrived safely, 2 by air (I picked them up) and the other drove with 2 big dogs.  Tahlia's a BIG Nana 's girl, only Nana can help her.. We got to stop in and see Little Joseph for a bit. Tahlia was a bit jealous. Mommy couldn't meet or hold him, after about 10 mins. Nana could pick him up. Tahlia got off my lap and sat on Mommies. I had Joseph a whole 3 mins. and Tahlia demanded, give him to Papa and crawled back in my lap. LOL Mommy, Daddy and Tahlia all drove down (1 1/2 hours) this morning to visit, can't wait to hear what she thought today. Dave, Amanda & Joseph is coming for the long weekend so hoping she gets use to him. My house is crowded and noisy and I'm LOVING every min. of it.
