Sammie,
I had to go back a few pages to remember who was in CO. My daughter in law is from Brush and she has family in Sterling also. When my son got out of the Navy after his 4 years they moved out to Montrose because he thought he had a chance to get a police job there through some other family members of hers. Unfortunately, nothing worked out and he ended up going back in the Navy. We went out there this past June to attend their wedding in Grand Junction. We had just a great trip and I'd love to go back and go to more of the Denver area to see the big mountains. In fact - I'm wearing my Grand Junction, CO tshirt today!!

Lisa,
lol - that's cute!!

Did you choose not to go to the swearing in or will you be joining them tomorrow? Yes, she will always be your daughter - that will never change. But you will just be bursting with an unbelievable pride for her whenever you are out with her after bc and beyond. So she's going to be an OS? That's what I was! I was the second female to get rated as an OS (a few years ago!!!!) because when I went in the rate had just opened up to females. The first female got rated 3 months before me!!

Hello!! Wow you ladies are amazing. I went back and caught up on all the postings since last night and some of you can actually get on here and carry on conversations before you go to church!!! I'm lucky if I can concentrate enough to connect the coffee cup to my mouth. After church, hubby wanted to get our grocery list done and head off to do some shopping. Ugh!! so that took up the bulk of my afternoon!! But at least it's done and I don't have to go out again later to do it.

NavyMomBarb,

Welcome - glad to see you here. I know there are two moms who have officer daughters NavyMomXXXY who was mentioned earlier, and Catherine W. You should try to search for both of them. Just my personal opinion here, but I would encourage your daughter to stay in and get that college education. You can do so much more with that and like was said earlier - without the college debt!!! I know officers who had families and raised their children just fine. I remember when I was enlisted, I used to babysit for several officers children!! Put a little extra cash in my pocket and they got to go out. I think the thing about the military is that they take care of their own (granted maybe not 100% but for the most part they do). There would be daycare centers on base and I think there is always someone close by to help out a fellow sailor - officer or enlisted. Plus, look at the medical benefits you have. I don't see any reason she would not be able to have it all!!

Glad to see everyone else is doing ok. Pat, have you heard from Jenn today? How is the research going?

Linda,
Sorry to hear about your daughter's situation. I know sometimes certain members of the military can get really wrapped up in - oh you didn't follow the chain of command and I didn't know what was going on. It's one thing if she initiated the break in the command. In other words - if SHE went to the chief and asked for the day off and didn't go to her immediate supervisor first. But she didn't - the chief went to her and told her to go home. She was following orders!! End of story!! The other members in her chain just have to get over it!!

Anyway - what else is going on with everyone?

Why are you sorry, Joanne? You are being open about your emotions and how you handled them. That may help someone else. Each of us deals with separation in different ways.

I forgot who was talking about her daughter and NROTC. There are lots of jobs, not just the military that require traveling. You only have to get onto an airplane to realize that. True, it is not the same as being stationed apart. Marriage takes a lot of work as does raising children. The value of a college education is significant and getting it without debt is also significant. I also happen to feel that the military experience allows young people to gain self confidence and to get a variety of experiences they could not get easily elsewhere. If they serve 20 years, they get life-long benefits and double dipping. There is another mom on N4M (Maggie) and her daughter is in NROTC. It would be great if you could chat with her some.

Sammie, I love the mountains as well. Once I spent two weeks in Colorado Springs at a workshop. Over the weekend, I took my rental car and headed to the mounains. When I returned my dean wanted to know why I had over 1000 miles for my time in CS whereas he only had a couple hundred. I reminded him that I had the weekend, he didn't. The next time you see a purple-mountain sunset enjoy it for me! I only saw those in the west but they were always worth stopping to watch. Here I get to watch the bay turn gold or pink, depends upon the sunset. If I'm in the house, I can see the bay sparkling through the trees. I always think of fairies playing in the woods. Now when my brother watches fireflies in the meadow, he thinks of fairies playing in the field. Okay, so we are both weird!

Pat, you sound like me. I need to go grocery shopping and I'm finding all sorts of other things to do instead! It's a combination of getting dressed and driving to town to do something I don't enjoy. On the research, I suggest that you only become informed on things that help with diagnosis because right now that is very important. Find out about treatment options so that Jenn can make an informed decision when the time comes. Pay absolutely no attention to statistics! Remember they are based on past studies and the medical front is always changing. Besides there are people who defy the stats. Those tails on a distribution are there for a reason!

Kristen,
I got a chance to look at your page and saw where you're from. I used to live in San Diego back when I was in the Navy. I was stationed at NAS North Island. Now help me remember my city - are you close to Poway? We still have friends that live there. They were surrounded by all those fires back a couple years.
Dori,
Do they do steamed crab with the Old Bay and sit around and pick crab and drink beer like the folks in Maryland do?

Well ladies - I got all the little things taken care of and now it's time to get some sleep. I think tonight I'll actually be able to close my eyes and sleep!!! Will be in touch with everyone tomorrow. Sleep tight everyone!! Kristen - ok you got a few hours yet!!!

Lady - you crack me up!! Yes, I like to sit in my happy computer place and talk away!!! Sometimes I'm actually talking to someone!!!

However, now I have to step away for awhile. Got some things I've got to get done. Might have time to get back on a little later if it doesn't get too late.
Hugs to you all!!!

I know what you meant - but I laughed when I read it!!! It feels so good to be able to chuckle at things again!!! Emotional roller coaster is right.
I miss Blondie - I know she can't get on over the weekend - :(
