Pat (Mom of Jenn),
Sorry - didn't see your answer to Mimi before I gave the same answer. We must think alike - how scary is that!! lol

Mimi,
Can you see this group when you go to the group's tab? If you click on groups and then "my groups" can you get here that way? I don't know why you wouldn't be receiving email notifications. Did your "stop following" button accidently get clicked on? That option is right above all the group member's pictures. Other than that I really don't know too much about things work on this site in general. Let me know if any of those things help!!

Welcome Delores, glad to have you with us.

Pat (Mom of Jenn),
Dinner sounds great - but no funnel cake??!!! With apple butter on the side would be great!! Yes, all this food talk is making me hungry.
Dori,
living in Annapolis for 11 years turned me into a big crab fan. Sorry you couldn't get any tonight. Burgers sounds good tho' also. When did you say dinner was?
Marianne,
Dad shopping with his daughter - how precious that is. My girls used to love when it was just them and their dad time.

Sammie, Apple season is upon us. Last year we had so many that I could not keep up so the deer got lots of them. I love apple butter and you are right it does smell so good. I make it in the crockpot. I dry lots of apples but they don't last long.

Went to the store ... no crab meat today. :-( So sad, so we will have hamburgers instead.

Sammie,
I hear your heartbreak and I hope you can feel my arms around your shoulders right now giving you a big hug!! Our bonds with our daughters go deep sometimes and it does make it so much harder to send them off into the world knowing we won't ever have that one on one time time together like we used to. Yes, we want to see them go and live their life but it leaves us with some an empty space!! Those crazy showers - I can get lots of soap in my eyes also!!!
I pray that your relationship with your son continues to heal and you two find your way back to having a close mother/son relationship.
Hang in there - we will all be here to help you get through these days. Take care of yourself, pamper yourself a little. It's not wrong or unusual to feel down as her day of departure draws near. It will get a little easier.

Now where did I see the time and location for that dinner tonight? Let's see I think it was chicken soup for the 1st course and BBQ for the main entree and funnel cakes for desert!! I'm drooling all over my keyboard. I hope I don't short circuit it!!!
NC, where I am currently staying temporarily, is 78 and humid. Big clouds coming in; I think we may be in for some storms.

I'm off for awhile with the hubby!

Marianne,
How wonderful to watch your sleeping sailor!!
Sammy,
I STILL cry in the shower!!!
Blondie,
Good to see you here!! I missed hearing from you yesterday.
Pat (Mom of Jenn),
How is Jenn today? Will she have any more tests this weekend or will she hear anything this weekend or do you have to (patiently?) wait until Monday? Continuing my prayers for her and you.
Susan H,
Hang in there - I really pray this all blows over soon.
Big Navy Hugs to All - will check in later. . . . . . . .

Good afternoon ladies,
I just got on and was afraid to check in because I just didn't want to find out that everyone left for the new group and I was all alone. I just want to reassure everyone that I will NOT close this group unless we can all be members together. I sent an appeal to Pat to get past all of the drama and just combine our members in one group. I requested membership in the other group and I have not been accepted. That group is private because if you are not a member you can not see anything there. And you can't become a member until the creator, Pat, accepts you. Pat will not answer any of my questions as to why she is mad at me and why we can't just all put this past us and enjoy all being moms of daughters. I have apologized numerous times. Funny thing is I have NO IDEA what I did to her. She said she wanted out of the original group. I told her in a private message that I would volunteer to keep the group going because I did not want to lose contact with all you wonderful moms of daughters. She closed her group I opened up the #2 group. I told her I was keeping the logo and chosing the name close to the old one so everyone would be able to find it and it would be familiar. Then yesterday she recreated her old group. But I guess some of us are not being allowed in there.
I never wanted any of this drama and I honestly can't tell you ladies what happened or why. I will keep this group - I want us all to have a place to support each other and share our concerns about our sailor girls. Someone else said it here - no one other than us understands the bond between mom and daughter and how we feel when they go off to serve our great country.
The ball is in Pat's court. I asked her to let us all be together in one place and I asked to join her group. If she can't allow that then I guess some of us will be on both places but I won't turn anyone away and I won't shut it down.
I love all of you, Pat included. I asked forgiveness for whatever I may have done to upset her but have heard nothing. So lets go forward and just be here to help and support each other.

Sammie, You have a lot of life changes going on right now. It is easy to see why you are overwhelmed. Deployment, as an only thing, is stressful. Having a loved one go into BC, as an only thing, is stressful. You have both.

On the deployment front, remember that it is possible to maintain contact through the Internet, chat rooms, Skype, etc. Now if your son is on a sub, it will be much harder. :-(

On the BC front, the first few weeks are tough. In the middle of the night, probably, you will get the 30-second call from your daughter telling you she is safe, good bye. I know that I was so surprised that Victoria sounded overwhelmed and lost. Then, nothing for a while and then "the box" arrives. Victoria did not send hers to me so I missed that experience. About this time you will get a form letter with a brief note from your daughter at the bottom. This will give you the address plus dos and don'ts for mail, etc. Now assuming that your daughter writes letters, you will soon get a "real" letter. In this one, Victoria was not a happy camper and did not like boot camp very much. But soon the letters were upbeat, she was proud of things she accomplished. Phone calls are earned and I missed the one that Victoria earned. The first one I got was after Battle Stations. We had a wonderful talk then.

Now what you can do is to begin writing letters as soon as she leaves. She will love them and it will help you as well. Write about anything that goes on during your day. Write about the pets if you have any. Include pictures, ordinary pictures of ordinary things, e.g., I took a picture of her granddad reading the paper. Number them so that when you get the address and mail a bunch, she will know which to read first.

Victoria took her cell phone with her. She called when her plane arrived in Chicago. I have heard of others who called before they checked into the USO. Once they check in, I don't think they can use the cell phone again and they have to mail it home.

Your daughter does not need to take much with her ... pretty much the clothes on her back. She will have to ship everything else home. The Navy issues everything ... undies (granny undies), utilities, just everything.

Don't worry, you can vent here. We have been through it. Many hugs.
