Richsmom: Here, Here!! to all that you said and then some!! When we ask The Prince how he's doing, the response is usually, "Livin' the dream, mom!"And he's only in Dive Prep, so far! LOL!!
I have been privvy to some of the downer stuff; but I think he only shares that stuff with me because I'm really good at the "stay calm -- let's keep this in perspective" talks, y'know. In his heart he knows we all take the bad with the good in our lives, but sometimes you just need to be reminded.
Sooooo happy to have N4Ms in my life! I agree with you that I would feel lost about what's going on with my son if not for the support, info, and encouragement that WE get here (oh yes, my son is grateful, too, believe me!!).

It's been 9 1/2 months for our son. He will graduate from PC dive school in April. It's been mostly highs and very few lows. The lows coming mostly from not knowing anything. You will find that N4M's is one of the best things that you will be involved in. Most of my info has been from N4M's since our son is very closed mouth and wants to do this on his own. He shared and still shares all the good things and hardly any bad with us. We have to find out from others.
I have met (personally and virtually) some of the most wonderful, patriotic people on this forum. Make sure you join his PIR group, his Division group, (if they don't have one, start one, I did and made the best friends ever).
We are extremely proud of him and sometimes find it hard to believe that our little boy si doing all these great courageous things. I tell him all the time that he is really living life.
He will be different. Paying attention to details that he never did before. On the train ride to Chicago when we went to his PIR he was a little stressed about me having my foot on the luggage rack on the train. In his world it didin't belong there. It belonged on the floor. One of my N4M's friends told me that the first night in the hotel after PIR her son went in and cleaned up the bathroom in the hotel room. He was bothered by the clutter. Something that you know would never have bothered him before.
Now our son is sending us pictures of him spear fishing on his time off. He is the happiest he's ever been. I know that he is proud of himself and what he has accomplished. As are we.
All I can say is, if you can, don't worry too much. The Navy has been training young men and women for awhile now. They will be better people for it. Sit back and enjoy the ride. I know that's easy to say, but do try. So far it's been a wonderful experience and well worth it. :-)
Oh, great information exxie. I have no idea what day he's on, left on a Monday, arrived at boot camp on a Weds. Would he have started Day 1 on the next Monday? If so then this would only be his week 2.
Husband is laughing at me, but I know you guys know the feeling! lol! okay I am also laughing at myself!
Ozzy: I got my phone call on Day 3-1 (Day One of Week Three) of the basic training. BUT it was more like 4 or 5 weeks from when he left because of timing--his division didn't start immediately upon arrival. Even though he arrived at RTC on 12/15, he didn't actually start basic training until December 27th or 28th (can't remember). Anyway, that much hold time isn't normal--just because of the end-of-year stuff. Do you have any idea when your son's Day 1-1 was? Have you gotten any letters that give you a "today's Day 1-5 or Day 2-1?"
They have 5-day weeks, Saturday and Sunday don't count; BUT they might start Day 1-1 on a Wednesday, and then have Day 1-2, Thursday, Day 1-3, Friday, Sat & Sun off, Day 1-4 Monday, Day 1-5 Tuesday, Day 2-1 Wednesday, and so on. See what I'm saying? Has there been any discussion in your PIR group about which divisions are on which days?
My husband just finished the first two weeks of dive school in FL. Yay! Feels like an accomplishment already :)
Ozzy- He didn't get to come home after dive prep. Dive school started on a Monday and they flew out on the Saturday before. But if he is driving a car down, those guys were able to leave the Wednesday before and get their cars from home.
