Hi Quilter.  Did your son do OK on the RLP inspection this time?  Hope he is back with a class now and full speed ahead!

Yes :) he sure did!!! Today he was fitted for his white uniform  and his dress blues!! He also received his anchor pin!! He said it was a moment he will never forget!!! Thank you so much for asking!!! He really liked H-class, he said helping everyone and lifting their spirits passed the time really fast!! Thank you again for all your help!!

Quilter:  So glad to hear the good news about your son!   Getting rolled can make them feel like failures and want to quit, but if they can just stick it out, they usually come out stronger, physically and mentally.  I'm sure he will be a leader and an encourager in his new class!  Now comes the hard academic stuff: naval engineering, navigation, weapons systems, etc.

Also good news is that he should have email now or soon, so you will hear more from him than with letters. It sure helped (for my sake) when I could keep in touch with my son more frequently through email.

Since your son will be graduating in summer, he'll graduate in those dress whites, like my son did.  They call them "choker" whites because the coat has a high, stiff collar that makes them feel like they have a neck brace on, but they sure do look sharp!!!   You'll be bursting with pride at graduation!  (Take tissues unless you're less emotional than most!)

Emails are HEAVEN!!! We emailed each other most of the day yesterday!! He is so excited for whats ahead!! Today they have a Fire fighter exercise!! This weekend they were fitted for their uniforms!! He said as soon as he put that Dress White  uniform on, he said he felt amazing!! He received the anchor pin the other evening and he said that was also something he will never forget!!! He is ready for the academic phase.  I have to tell you....My son this time around passed RLP on the 1st try, he said he nailed it...his roommate failed..so my son helped his roommate with everything, and told him that he could sleep in his bed and my son slept on the floor, so his roommate could get some needed sleep for the RLP the next morning!! His roommate passed!!!! My son's roommate could not Thank our son enough!! His bed was perfect..and he got some rest. We were so proud of our son doing that for his roommate... I don't think our boy would sleep on the floor for one of his own siblings!!! LOL LOL

Quilter: That was very generous of your son to help his roomie like that!  OCS actually encourages them to help each other in every way possible to build a strong team.  They actually discourage anyone from being a "lone wolf" and doing everything themselves instead of helping and being helped by their "shipmates."   They will have other inspections in their khaki uniforms, and in their dress whites before graduation. They learn what they are good at, and then everyone pitches in.  Some are good at ironing creases in the uniforms, some polish the belt buckles; my son polished about a dozen pairs of shoes!  "All for one; one for all," is the attitude OCS wants.  Same way with the academic courses,--  they encourage them to help each other study.

Yeah, they all love the firefighting exercise!  I think every little boy, and probably some little girls, dream of being firefighters when they grow up, so it's usually a fantasy fulfillment!   They wear the full gear and hose down real fires.  They usually post pics of it on the Officer Training Command Newport Facebook page.  Maybe you will see your son!

Later on, they have to do a "high ropes" course, where there are a bunch of ropes strung between poles about twenty feet up in the air, and they have to maneuver from pole to pole by crawling and swinging on those ropes. (With safety harnesses on, of course.)   My son loved that because he taught rock climbing and rappelling off of high places at Boy Scout camp.  I think you wrote that your son was a pilot (?) so he should have no fear of heights!

Now that your son has passed RLP, you might find this video amusing.  It is NOT funny BEFORE passing RLP!   Notice how they have to refer to themselves in the third person!  (This candidate...)     My son said this is just about what it felt like to him when he was being inspected!!!!!!!     Feel free to share this with your class Facebook group, for those who have passed!          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agmas9UoxE8
