Hi guys.  My daughter just arrived at BC on Wednesday and she is in the NEW PACT program.  So much different than the old program and I am confident that it will be a good experience.  Now, with the new program, they get to try different jobs within the Airman rate for 12 months (once at her permanent duty station) and she and the career counselor begin (at 9 months in) to help her decide on a rate.  After her 12 months, she is sent to the chosen A School (obviously there has to be an opening in that rate), completes school and then goes back out into the fleet.  Also guarantees E4 after 2 years (I would hope she would already be there.... but for those coming out of BC as and E1 that may not be the case.  Anyway, I will keep you all posted and let you know how the new program is working and whether or not it is a good choice.  They were currently offering a $ 10K incentive to try it, since the old program used to be avoided like the plague and had a bad reputation of keeping the kids in some horrible job for their entire enlistment.  Hopefully this is better and it does what it says.  Fingers crossed

Congrats, Angella - my son went in PACT as well. It isn't the best route, but he seems to be pretty happy. good luck! It is a lot of hard work and they really have to stay on top of their quals to be able to advance or strike when the time comes.

I'm happy to see some positive things about being undesignated on here. Its definitely reassuring since my husband is in boot camp currently as A PACT and all I ever read is horrible things.

Whatever the Navy needs

Son#2, yes he will get some mechanical training.  Our son is undes too.  He is past the true grunt work and wearing many different hats.  Helicopter crew, fire crew, boatswain (of course), coxswain.  He should be able to strike very soon (I hope).  He has never complained and has made many very good friends.

Undes is not horriable. A lot of people told my husband no why did you but he had no choice as my husband aced the ASVAB they wanted him to go Nuke but this route will take him that way which he is doing now to take us to Nuke school we will see what happens unless his mind changes again. Lol

Yes, my son said early on he suggested to some guys that they go back and redo something thatcwasntvquitevfinusged after quitting time and they all made fun of him. He knows that there are some guys that are just there to do their time and collect a paycheck, just like the civilian world. They won’t advance or rate and they are the ones that complain. I can’t bekieve your husband knows several guys that have been on a ship for three years that haven’t rated.

For sure if he’s on the engineering side
