My family has been more than touched by dementia/alzheimer's as well......my grandfather, my aunt, my mother in law and now my 61 year old cousin (daughter of the aunt). I just came back from Atlanta where my cousin lives as her husband, who was her support and caregiver, suddenly died of a heart attack. There are no children so my brother and myself have helped as much as we can but we both live out of state. She does have 3 step daughters and their spouses who have all been wonderful but at 61, she just moved into an assisted living facility in Atlanta. She started showing signs in her mid 50's (unbelievable) and had to give up a big job. She's in a study at Emory Hospital for those diagnosed with this illness and tested positive for the Alzheimer's gene. She takes an infusion treatment every 13 weeks which is administered like chemo and takes a few hours each time.....she will do this for 18 months, however, she doesn't know if she's getting the actual drug or the placebo. The drug doesn't cure the disease but slows down the progression quite a bit. She also has all kinds of neurological testing done as well. It's a great study and she is very fortunate to be in it. This study is going on all over the world and could prove to be a real break through for those with the disease. I'll be going back to Atlanta in April and every few weeks for a long time...just so sad, so my heart goes out to each of you who are going through this with a loved one. It is very difficult.
I saw Coming Home last night...it was wonderful and I shed some tears for sure.....
I also know someone from Portland (Oregon) going on the tiger cruise too, isn't it a VERY small world and I don't believe they have sailed yet from Hawaii. I gave him AH's info and vice versa and hope they connect!
Leslie, if you find the Wings of "Gold" in silver, please let me know!
Nancy, very sorry for your loss.

Thanks Navymominohio for posting news, as I often can't write to this site. I'm able to read more often so I really appreciate the contact by following everyone else. Our sons will be going to Kingsville. Thanks for the congrats!
Nancy, sorry about your dad. I hope you can rest easily now that he is at peace. It's wonderful that soon you'll have two new granddaughters.
