OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I have been to Mayport twice and love it. It is a small base, especially compared to Mayport. I stayed at the motel on base. The Mayport inn and suites is torn down and being replaced but the other one is great. Some ocean view rooms and some with microwave and kitchen sink. I walked into the officers club to eat every day and no one asked for my ID. Great food really cheap. Wonderful steaks. There is a swimming pool with a big slide, bowling alley, etc bUT they do require IDs. Firebrick people. I joined the Navy Federal Credit Union: there's one on base. I had access to my money. Base is on the beach. Clean and patrolled by military police. I saw kite surfing. Also a helicopter doing rescue maneuveres. Very well priced motel compared to Jacksonville Beach. When you arrive go to the Base Pass Office just inside the gait. Call them aND they come out to issue you a pass to get back on base without your sailor there. Check for requirements. I used drivers license and passport and had to have my sailor there to sign his life away if I didn't follow rules on base. A few fast food places. McDonalds Taco bell Subway. Small grocery store on base but need military I'd to buy anything.
Warning: don't watch Shark Week before you go!
If not staying at motel on base there is a drive up access to the beach with your car while on base. No crowds because reserved for military. Don't accidentally walk past the military beach perimeter or they won't let you back in! Make sure your sailor gets approved for leave while you are there. Have fun.

Yes, there is very little discussion from this group. When my son was at Pcola there were a lot of comments. I haven't been to Mayport to visit my son yet but would love to hear feedback from others that have been to visit.

So it looks like no one has been on here in almost a year!!!!! My son will be stationed at Mayport he is home for a few weeks then will head to Florida ... Looking forward to visiting

Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. My son arrived in Mayport last Friday after finishing A school in Pcola. He has lots of paperwork for now but will be working on helicopters eventually.

Kels_navy sorry I haven't replied. got my boy to Mayport from Pcola then busy at work the rest of the week. He got checked in and so far so good. He won't be an office bitch, he will be learning stuff and is impressed with everyone so far...makes this mama's heart happy. He heads to Hawaii in October...got to start my visit fund!!

I'm from Jacksonville, living in Pensacola for school but my LO will be in Mayport after OCS in May! I dont know much about the base but any questions or just chit chats about Jax (or anything) feel free!

I will be in Hawaii June 12th. It will be my first time there. Going to Pearl Harbor, etc. It will probably be before he gets there. So, he will be assigned to Shore Duty. Awesome! Enjoy your time with him.

Thanks for the welcome! My son will have his car until he finishes C school at Jax. I think he is at Mayport to be an office b*tch until his C school starts--as per his description. after c school he heads to Hawaii, no ships for us!! We are headed to Mayport straight from Pcola, we have a couple days until he reports just to get acclimated to the area. We were spoiled in Pcola, since it's only 3 hours from home....Jax/Mayport is considerably farther...no more coming home for the weekends!!! He isn't a beach guy,lol.

Nice little base. My son walked everywhere until he finally got a car. No post office on base but can rent a box right off of base to send mail and care packages. Too far to walk for that.
When you visit stay at one of the two motels on base: Navy Lodge and Navy Gateway Inns and Suites. They are on the beach. Wear sunscreen!
And whatever you (or he) do(es), do NOT watch shark week before going into the water. I made that mistake. My older son told me he didn't need a shark protection suit, he just needed to swim faster than ME. The morning that I went in the water, they pulled everyone out twice for shark sightings. They actually satellite tag, name them, and rescue these sharks from fishing nets. Go to:
Look up Bailey and Miss Michalove sharks. You can track their movements for the last 2 years.
Google Jacksonville Beach shark sightings and see pictures of them in only a few feet of water right alongside the shore.

There is a city bus system that comes onto base bus but is limited in times it returns sailors at the end of the day. My son used this many times.
After his first deployment, he was given an apartment shared with 3 others. It beats living on a ship! He likes the area but just wishes it was a bigger base. He originally was at Norfolk, VA. When your son comes home from deployment, make sure you are there to welcome him home. There is a family party the night before and it is a big deal to see them come off the ship. They even let us tour the ship. Check out the Tiger Cruise program for spending a few days on the ship as it returns from deployment.
