Hello everyone,

I have read a few discussions from parents whose Sailors were separated from service before they intended. My son is an example of how the system can fail you. He had asthma as a child but had not been medicated or seen a doctor for it in quite some time (years). His recruiter counseled him against telling anyone about it since it was so long ago. So he didn't say anything, he passed all his tests in MEPS, and he was fine. He graduated Nuke A-school in July and…

He graduated Nuke A-school in July and was in Power School as of last week. My Son, a very dedicated and intelligent ETN3, was just informed that he has been kicked out of the Navy.

My son got really sick a few weeks ago and thought he had Covid. He went to medical and they did a lot of tests on him, determining he didn't have Covid, but he couldn't breathe. So the Navy did a lot of digging in his medical history and fund a Dx of Asthma, and determined he lied in his paperwork. He said "they gave me a bunch of articles and demoted me, put me on restriction, and ... I am being separated from the Navy."

WOW. It's HARD to be a proud supporter of this kind of establishment. To be fair, his two immediate commanding officers agree this is too extreme of a punishment and the Navy is losing an asset by separating my son, but there isn't anything that can be done to reverse the decision, they tried for days to keep him, but the guy in charge had a chip on his shoulder.

So, my question is - does anyone have contacts or know what civilian contract companies hire Navy Nukes?

My son's goal in life was to become a Nuclear physicist or engineer. The Navy had a great Nuke program and he was excited to learn from them, but apparently, that was not his path. He must move forward from this setback. His goals haven't changed, just the means of attaining them.

Thanks in advance for any and all comments,

Hi. Where can my son go to get an inexpensive portrait of himself in his uniform for me? I only have his picture from basic.

I found this on the computer when i openned it this morning. My husband/nuke is stressed beyond belief and this is totally not him. We have "You should reenlist" coming in all directions, from the navy, from family. Everyone thinks it's a good idea and not sure why we are hesitant. Sacrifice isn't the same for everyone. Suffering in some sense comes with the job. Not saying that people aren't made for this job, but everyone has to put something on the back burner to live this life. Typically…

Typically it's family that suffers. You are frustrated your kids don't call, my kids are upset daddy is never home. But meanwhile they say "you should stay in" " 10 more years and you will get a pension"...

Please. Think before you speak. It effects people and may be putting more of a strain then you think. These big decisions effect their whole lives in more than just positive ways. Trust me. They know they can get that pension, but they also see what they are missing, and a part of it is probably the relationship they had with you.

Don't call and say call me back. Call and say you love them, you are proud, they doing great. Don't make them feel guilty that they just can't manage it right now. I'm a mom too, I feel you. Just realize you could be inevertently pushing them away. They have way more than they should on their plates.

Please don't take this the wrong way. Not everyone does this, I've been guilty more times then I can count. Just a reminder to hug your sailor, if not in person then virtually.

My son completed ETN A school on Friday and was awarded the Commanding Officers’ Personal Excellence Award and received a challenge coin. I was surprised and extremely proud.
He stayed in uniform and we went to Patriots Point and Fort Sumpter then to dinner. It was really cool to see him saluting as they lowered the flag at Fort Sumpter. A veteran tried to buy him a drink but he is only 18 so they bought him dessert instead at Fleets Landing.

Hello All,

I am new here. My son leaves for boot camp January 17th, 2023. We are spending all the time we can with him before he leaves. Any information any of you can give me on what to expect while he's in boot camp as far as getting a letter on his date or PIR or anything would be greatly appreciated.

My son is in week 5, I believe, of ETN A school.

He tells me when they have tests coming up but I am reluctant to ask how he did. Is there a certain part that is harder than others? I do not want to put any added stress on him. He was one of those who underachieved in HS and I do t want him stressing out about grades except for himself

Also I’m going to visit at Thanksgiving. What kind of surprise would be good to take? He says he no longer eats candy.

I am so proud of my boys decision to join the Navy. Like most of our kids, he had scholarships to many Ivy league schools and chose the military. I just want these mothers to enjoy the serenity before things get real. Don't rush it.

My son has been a nuke for almost 6yrs. He's on his sub and again deployed. Every male on both sides of my family served. I can't tell you how proud I was and am this is the path he chose. He had full scholarships to every tech school and every ivy league school but decided to enlist. Please be happy that your kids navy schooling is delayed. My son was deployed as soon as Biden said he would send US men and women to defend Taiwan. I think China needs to be dealt with but when it's your kid it's…

Enjoy not looking out the window every time you hear a car door close outside your house. I know what you're all thinking, I shouldn't think that way but don't judge until it's you. I raised my baby alone so he's been my everything. Just please take my advice if you can, don't rush your kids into the fleet.
