Mine is more interested in getting additional Navy quals that will count as points on their promotion and evals.  He said this is only the 2nd time they have offered this financial instructor certification to E4 usually you have to be a E6 to take the course and the certification is good for 3 years.   Plus he  has 3 semesters of college under his belt and his grad hold is only 7 weeks any so it would not be a good fit for another college class.  It is good to know the college classes are offered.

Mary I think they tell them they are only allowed to drive 8 hours per day of course nobody is there in the car watching them LOL.

good morning all!  it is over the hump day!! yeeeaahhh!!

william--glad to hear your son will be traveling with friends if not in the same vehicle.    im sure they will be keeping their eyes on each other.   no one will want to get lost.   they will be like a flock of birds heading north!LOL   my son will be graduating power school in july.   he said something about taking college classes while on grad hold.   i was thinking he would give his brain a rest, but i guess it is better to keep it active.   as long as he doesnt burn it out!LOL   good luck to your son and his friends!!   closer commute for you and your wife too!!

Well my son called me today he is driving from Goose Creek to drive to Ballston Spa for prototype the end of this month.  There are six of them renting a house together and they are all going to drive in a big caravan of cars since they each have a car.  I was hoping somebody would carpool together with him in his car, but they all have their own cars.   Then about halfway there  they are going to stay over  at his classmate's house which is nice so they have it all planned out.  He spent some time getting the car ready at the base you-do-it garage.  My wife and I will drive there the middle of June and bring him a lot of food LOL plus she will cook for the whole gang I am sure.  It will be great for us it is just under 4 hour drive door to door from our house.  It will be good to place faces to the names of the ones I did not meet yet.  Now he is taking extra qualifications for Navy while he is finishing up his grad hold after nuclear power school.  One of them is command financial specialist training which sounds interesting was some classes held at the base and trains them how to advise people about  the TSP savings plan and other investment and they tell them how to advise shipmates how to save and budget etc. which is good to know.  He  must have inherited that talent  from my wife LOL.  He wants to take fiber optics training later on after prototype if he can get it (he's a ET) and all the training he can get from the Navy.  I am just glad he is keeping his mind active during grad hold LOL.

Doreen, I'm guessing your son is waiting for a re-rate....went through that last year with mine.  Things will work out!  Just keep the faith!  The waiting is the tough part. We waited a month for word on my son's new rate...so don't freak, it will come when the Navy is ready to tell him.  Praying all goes well!

William- no not yet. Today he moved to a new building where he will stay until he is reassigned. It might take several weeks.

It has been a few days since I have been on.  It is true that you can miss a lot on here.

Emily, Congratulations!   Thanks for the info about the National Parks.  I am going to pass that on.

Thanks, everyone! :)

Hope all those new Stennis guys/gals are getting settled in over here. There seem to be lots of new Nukes (yay for Aaron not being one of the new guys anymore!!). :)

Hopefully we have news soon as to what the ship is going to be doing later this year...

In case any of your sons are interested, I came across an article this morning (several times in my newsfeed thanks to alll my military friends) and I thought I would share. They are now waiving all fees to National Parks for military and their dependents. Here's the link to check out. :) National Parks Article If your sons/daughters are the camping/hiking type, this would really save them a lot of money. :)

Popeye officially reports to the Stennis tomorrow morning!!!!!  it is really hard for me to grasp that he left for MEPS and BC 27 months and 6 days ago.  It seems like he just left.  How can time fly and the periodically slow to a snails pace?  Praying for all the sailors who are joining the fleet and the moms standing behind them (oh and wives, and gfs and fiancees!!)

Comment by Binker & Bro: 2X Nuke Mom on May 15, 2012 at 8:13am

congratulations Emily and Aaron! hugs to you both! I am sure that since Binker is heading to the Stennis that we will actually get to meet one of these days! Congrats to all the new graduates--mom type and sailor type. Happy mothers day (a little late) to the best group of moms a sailor could ever have. Love you all!
