Anmarie, I am not sure about the shifts.  When she gets off work today I'll see what information she can give to me.

As far as graduations go, I had planned on attending all of them.  The Tuesday before PS grad the entire city of Charleston was under a mandatory evacuation in front of a hurricane.  No PS graduation.  They returned from evac and moved on to Proto.

My daughter moved off base into a house with 3 other Nukes during PS.  They seem to band together into groups and just move without warning.  After she got married she and her husband got a cute little place of their own.

Hi all - Happy Monday!

We went to BC, A school and Proto grad (in NY).  We had planned on going to power school grad but B had to recomp so he didn't get to participate in the ceremony so we chose not to go.  I say go to whatever grads you can because you never know what might happen.  And definitely either get flight insurance or fly Southwest like we do so changes can be made with no fees.

Two best pieces of advice: 1) get flight insurance 2) Semper gumby. I know you already responded, MamaKatie, but my means are limited also and I chose PS grad. Never regretted it.

And thank God for that! Tulip not sure what I’d do without all of you!

Comment by Tulip on February 11, 2019 at 10:50am

MamaKatie, everyone’s situation is different. Factors out of your control can change things at a moment’s notice. We went to A school and PS graduations. Had been so looking forward to the intimate, more informal A school and it was great! Then anticipated the outdoor, large, formal ceremony with lots of pomp and ceremony for PS. As it turned out, shortly before everything was to begin, they moved everything into the same hall where we were for A school due to high winds. Much of the band was dismissed and only a handful of musicians actually played...outside near an open door f or us hear. So it ended u p being a similar experience to A school. Then his Proto grad date was changed numerous times and finally limited to military personnel only.

All this to say, do what you can and what makes sense for you and your family. Most importantly continue to support your sailor and enjoy every moment you can be with them!

Hold on tight, the roller coaster is still climbing. Semper Gumpy! We all here for each other!

Got it! I must have read that wrong! It is Monday you know haha

thanks again Ladies, I’m thinking that will be the graduation I plan for :) Hope you all have a great week!

God is Good ❤️

MamaKatie - They move out after Power School - "Something to think about with PS, is that they are not only graduating but also having to move out of their BEQ's and get settled in an apartment in GC or BS" - Sorry if I caused any confusion. The T-Track is between A school and PS and they do that still at NNPTC in GC.

Comment by ProudOfK on February 11, 2019 at 10:26am
Anmarie - about dry dock - pretty much what JayDee said. He's working on qualifying. The one thing about being in port like that seems to be that they have a more normal schedule - daytime and Monday through Friday except when it's his turn 'on duty' and having this on the weekend seems to be about once every 4 weeks.

MamaKatie - like Chipmunk said it is after PowerSchool they get an apartment and not after A school. I will say that I would pick Power School grad even over PIR of i had to. It was an absolutely wonderful day - but it was in May with the most perfect weather one could even dare hope for. And we spent the weekend with our son and then he left to drive up to BS when we left to fly home.

Thank you Anmarie!

Chipmunk~ that’s a lot of good info to consider! But now I have another question :) you mentioned they moved to apartment after A school. My son was thinking it was after power school. Is it different for everyone? Or maybe he’s mistaken? That is probably when I’d like to be there!
