I can answer that question. My mother passed away last Sept. My son wore his working whites (not sure that's the right description) to the viewing at the funeral home. He then wore his dress whites to the funeral services. I think the dress blues are only worn in the winter but we could have gotten permission to wear them if we had a problem with wearing white. I did not because his dress whites were my Mom's favorite uniform when she saw him wear it.

Hi ThanksMom, my son is stationed in Sasebo, Japan. It's his first choice. Also, they will not be able to be stationed out of the country if they get into any trouble.

Along the same lines as the bug discussion, I'm reminded of the time Alex was in Goose Creek,SC. He knows I have issues with spiders. So he took great joy in telling me about the size of them in SC. At one point he said they were debating whether to try and kill one or just get it a leash and name it as a pet. Apparently it was not only huge but fast on its many feet.

Hi Donna, I live in Cranberry Twp. So I guess I'm the closest to you. If you need anything or have any questions, just ask. I'll try and anticipate some things so you won't be too surprised by the process. I have two sons in the Navy right now.

I talked to the builder this morning. Because he is very good, he's also very busy. There is just no way he can start before the end of Sept. We are apparently looking at a 45 to 60 day project. That puts us square in the middle of Octoberish. They are telling me that I can leave to go to Groton while they are working on the basement. I just don't feel comfortable not being here while the house is full of construction guys.

I have a bit of a problem and I'm hoping for some advice. I am planning on finishing the basement. It will have a full bath, a separate kitchen, and a media room, mostly for Alex to use. My first idea was that it would be done for when Alex came home. Thinking he would be home the end of Oct or beginning of Nov. Then plan was to start contruction the first week of Oct or the last week of Sept. Last time we talked he said he'll have two weeks leave when they get back. But we could go to Groton in case he has two weeks before his leave starts. They now expect to return "Octoberish." Meaning late Sept or anytime in October. So now what do I do. Do I wait until after his leave or try and get it done before he comes home. I'd have to guess when "Octoberish" would be. Help!

Jonathan gets two weeks off twice a year when they are in port. Their schedule can change so it is hard to plan around. He got 4 weeks notice before Christmas that he could have 2 weeks that included Christmas or New Years. So flights where really expensive. He spent $2400 to fly from Japan. They are on duty less hours/days when they are in port. I think they work long hours, 7 days a week when they are out.

Alex will get 14 days either right away or two weeks after the sub returns. They never get more than two weeks at a time unless they are changing subs or are on terminal leave. He did have 30 days off after prototype while waiting to join his sub.

Hi everyone, I just got off the phone with Alex. They are in port in Europe somewhere and we got to talk for about 15 minutes. Its the first time I've got to talk to him since Feb. He did say he would call again before they come home some time in the Fall. It was so good to hear his voice and to know that he's doing OK.
