For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by diannep on January 17, 2013 at 1:25pm: ...to add to ellen's post: The sailors have to return to their ships after PIR...sometimes, that takes a while. My son was gone for about 45 minutes. So, with PIR being over at 10:30, about 10 minutes in PIR Hall before they clear it, and then waiting for your sailor to return from their ship....it will be at least 11:30, probably later, before anyone even starts to get off base. I agree with the times that ellen gave...that way, you could look around in the NEX if you want before leaving.

HOWEVER, for those who do not need to order/pickup photos, etc. you may want to wait and head over the the larger NEX that is on Greenbay Rd and close to RTC. Bigger and won't be packed like the RTC NEX will be. Another suggestion that a dad made on a recent group was: He needed to go to the RTC NEX for photos. However, it was packed...so he left base with his sailor and returned later that afternoon. He said they walked right in the NEX, no one was even in there, and they got their business taken care of. So that is another suggestion! Just make sure you know the NEX's hours.

You probably wouldn't make it by noon and one may even be pushing it a bit. It will take a while to leave base, and it is at least a fifteen minute drive to the restaurant. The one thing you probably won't want to be that weekend, is rushed.

Great choice for lunch by the way, I love that place. :)

Comment by lhill82125 on January 17, 2013 at 11:58am: I am going to wear a proud Navy grandma sweatshirt that I bought from Lala Ribbon Queen (I LOVE it) and jeans and boots. I know it is their formal occasion but that is how my grandson is used to seeing me. Besides I want to be warm!!

That will feel like a heat wave compared to the teens that we are to be in by Monday. I was going to wear dress pants, but I made the decision to stay warm and go with jeans, nice warm sweater, and my snuggly warm boots.
