Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Make sure to read our Community Guidelines and this Navy Operations Security (OPSEC) checklist - loose lips sink ships!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by knappi on January 16, 2013 at 9:53am: i have a question also about the names.. i think i already wrote to my son about my name on his list from the original one he sent. I got remarried in June however have not changed my license yet so i am praying he puts the correct last name for me. Does anyone know if he doesn;t, my social security has my marrried name will that do for ID?

Comment by Marvalyn on January 16, 2013 at 9:49am: Yesterday I sent my daughter an overnight letter through the post office to add names to her access list. The overnight letter envelope was flat but larger than a standard size envelope? Does anyone know if that envelope is going to cause problems for her? Or even the fact that I sent it overnight. All of a sudden I'm worried even though I thought I had read of other parents sending overnight letters :-(

Will reach out to you once i get his information..Last week he did write to his grandmother which just warmed my heart and he told her his A school destination was changed. Can't wait to talk to him about it. His job choice makes sense to be where he is going but i am trying to figure out all that he will be doing. Not clear to me but i'm sure it is for him! CAN'T wait to see him :)

We will be driving up from TN and would much rather have a noneventful drive as anything!! LOL But no matter what the weather is I'm gonna be there to hug my boy and let him know jsut how proud of him I am!!!

I'm not sure how many in the family can be seated in the special section--hopefully all...but I do think you get a letter with this info.

Sending you all lots of hugs.. Is it safe to say "hell" week is over?? Any news on the Gas Chamber? I am praying these next days go by very quickly!!!
