For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by MYSAILORSCOOPS0525 on January 15, 2013 at 2:15pm: I feel your frustration Shannon...My last letter was the 1st week of Jan and my last phone call was the week of Christmas..."No news is good news" but its definitely frustrating hearing about others receiving letters, calls, etc....

Hang in there, god-willing we'll be getting that "Im a Sailor" call soon!! Its ok if you need to cry it out! 10 more days =0)

Sadly, we have seen some post on here that someone in their group forgot their ID and that person was unable to get the pass. No ID, no pass! TSA rules!

I know I posted about OPSEC, details,etc as far as Flight info being passed out...but I just want to state that that should pertain to all areas.

We are here to support each other but we don't really "know" each other. I would not advise giving out your Sailors personall info (i.e. last names etc) to anyone.

Again, any info at all that you wish to know about your Recruit...needs to come from them. Even if a recruit has a setback...RTC personnel does not contact you...they have your Recruit do it.

BTW I am not posting that to be "snarky" :-) but to give you something tangible straight from RTC. I'm one of those types that likes to print stuff out to refer to...brain gets to jumbled and while that info is very important, I know it is one that I would file away at the back and then possibly worry about it later! Especially since the foremost on my mind at this point is waiting for that "I'm a Sailor" call.
