Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Comment by ellen0502 on January 14, 2013 at 7:16pm: ProudNavyMom, You need one gate pass per vehicle, you can print as many as you need or want. If you are making a scrapbook, print an extra one for that too. :)

There is a table set up just before you go to the drill hall, that is where you will need to give your Sailors name and division number, and your ID.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on January 14, 2013 at 7:12pm: Tnnavymom - You may bring the car seat into the Visitors Center (The USS Yorktown) and they will tell you where you may leave it. Mark it for safety (I would take a pic with your phone as well! LOL)

This goes for strollers as well. Here is the info from RTC Website FAQ's (It does say that they are "allowe...but...discouraged due to space limitations"...I wouldn't worry about that as it is not a "no" :-)

What items can we bring or not bring to PIR?

A.

Small purses, small diaper bags and cameras/video recorders are allowed. Strollers, car seats and backpacks are allowed, but discouraged due to space limitations. Due to security regulations, luggage is not permitted inside the drill hall. You can leave these items in your car. The taking of photographs/video is allowed at the Visitor Center and encouraged during the entire ceremony; however NO photography/video is permitted outside of these buildings. Contraband also will be confiscated and you may not be permitted entry. These items include but are not limited to: alcohol, illegal drugs, knives or weapons of any kind.

All persons, articles and vehicles are subject to security searches. Metal detectors and other security devices are in use onboard Recruit Training Command. Expect a delay at the security checkpoints due to this added security requirement.

Do we give them our Sailors name at the gate or is there a different place we give them our Sailors name and our ID's?

He has to be in a car seat since he's not quite 2 1/2. Will that pose a problem on the shuttle or should we plan to take our own vehicle?

US Navy Recruit Training Command, type in search. latest pictures I saw posted was the PIR of 1-4-13 and the captains cup for 1-12-13 winner was Division 64 and top honors go to Div 59. I did not go through the photo folder who knows what you will find in there.
