~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Yay for phone calls that warm your heart :)
Ship 12 Div 72, Recieved call from my SR Son, says so much is going on they are Busy this up coming week. He misses Mom and Dad thats normal feelings I told him but He's doing good. Looking forward to PIR Day!
Most families don't find out when their Sailors flight will be until they see them right after PIR, that is the main reason we suggest you stay until Sunday if possible so you get as much time with them as you can.
We found out after PIR that our daughter's flight was at 10:30 the next morning on a chartered flight. We went to the airport to spend some time with her and didn't know until we had been searching for her that those leaving on a chartered flight will not even come in the airport. They go straight from the base to jet. I wish we had known this because our goodbye when we dropped her off would have been very different. Not just a hug and see you in the morning. We all learn and sometimes it is really hard and seems unfair. But no matter what we all have to watch out for each other and for all our Sailors. Try not to worry about chartered flights, they don't happen often, only twice in two and a half years that I am aware of. If you do find out your Sailor is on a chartered flight then there is no need to go to the airport at the wee hours of the morning and get lots of hugs when you drop him or her off at the base. It makes sense for the Navy to use chartered flights when there are lots of Sailors going to the same place. On that day there were more than 170 Sailors going to Pensacola. Cheaper to charter a jet than to buy commercial flights for all of them.
There is a flight info card that you can send to your recruit now and tell them to hold onto it and fill it out when they get the info from their orders. They hold it until PIR and give it to you then. You don't want to end up at the wrong airport. If it is not posted in the discussions above I will post it now.
Thanks FTLW, Dianne, Ellen, Betsy and all the others who help on this site :)
thanks diannap. It's a good lesson for us newbies. Our sailor's safety comes first. And...the last thing I want is for my SR to get in trouble for my actions. She is already paranoid enough about screwing up on her own!
Ladies: There is some info that is fine to share with each other by private message....more personal details about your SRs, etc. But Navy info that involves "movement"....such as current location of ships/future ports or flights...is more private.
We advise all to stay through the weekend (Sunday at least) if you can. That way, you will have the weekend with your new sailor in the event he/she is there the entire weekend. That is not likely for those flying out...they usually leave on Saturday. But occasionally, they may not get flights until Sunday. This happened to my son...left Saturday morning. We were not flying back until Sunday, but my older son and I just did some sightseeing for the rest of Saturday.
For GL A School families, know that your SRs will have liberty with you (daytime) through the weekend, so flying back late on Sunday would give you lots of time with your new sailor (or even Monday).
RTC wants you all to practice OPSEC now. For instance, we cannot post the BattleStations dates anymore, but yes, we can private message them. We are just asking you all to be careful with what info you do private message.
Usually flight info is not available until after the SRs have completed BattleStations, at which time their orders are issued. For some divisions, this can be even a day or so before PIR. All of you will have your flight reservations by then, obviously. Your sailors will have their flight info by PIR Day and can give it to you then.
Just exercise caution, that is all we are asking....
I add my "ditto" to the posts about not disclosing movement of ships or sailors! Loose Lips Sink Ships....and this is usually done without malicious intention. Just people not understanding the "military way" and national security. I know for a fact that there have been some FB groups shut down by the Navy because of violation of this in these groups. So best to start practicing it now!
Good Morning All!
p.s. And flights can change! "Change" is a key word in the Navy! :-) By the way, FTLW had flights change when her son was there. Thankfully as kimmie mentioned below, she had originally booked through the weekend and was disappointed when she found he would be flying out Saturday. But guess what? CHANGE! And they had the weekend with him.
Thanks for the reminder FTLW. I live in a Navy town in Southeast GA. It is imperitive that we keep all the details of their coming and going dates, flights, etc. confidential. It could save a life. We can all patiently wait to find out the dates from our SR. We were informed from the begining that we might want to schedule our departure on Sunday because we would not know our SR's departure flight until graduation and I took that to heart. Thanks so much for your efforts to keep us informed. 12 more days!!!!!! Can't wait!!!!
