Hi Pumpkin,
Yes, they can go by shuttle :)
Micki
Not having a phone card is usually not a problem. The phone "bank" is in the same place as the NEX and when they go to make that first call they usually make a stop by there if they need a phone card. The are given a $150.00 Card to use at the NEX for the items they need including phone cards. So they would most likely be buying that card while waiting their turn for a phone. And if they don't get to do that then other recruits who do have a phone card will let someone else use it. If you missed this first call it is most likely because they had watch, duty, or were SIQ from having dental work. My daughter missed the first call because she had her wisdom teeth removed. Man she was ticked about it lol. I was upset and worried for 3 days wondering why everyone else from her division got a call and I didn't. 3 days later she called :-D I was so happy to get that call. She told me why she didn't get to call and how she was mad because she might not be able to eat normally for a couple days but she could walk/march just fine and could talk good enough for me to understand her lol. She also told me to be expecting a nice long letter of her ranting on and on about missing the call. I did receive that letter, 5 pages of her ranting lol I guess being SIQ gave her lots of time to write. If they miss a call they usually get to make it up within a few days. hang in there, you are all in my prayers because I remember how hard it was for me. I hope you get a "nice" long call very soon.
I agree with all that everyone said here. So many reasons to miss their call home...maybe watch, maybe at Medical for something, etc. So patience...that call will come. But the waiting is so hard, I know!
Sara, so glad for the long call! Sometimes they just find that they have that extra time to talk a bit longer...I had one like that from my son when he was there. He had "watch" and had missed the calls home. They allowed him to call after watch. Funny, he was talking and then I heard someone yelling in the background. He got quiet for a moment, acknowledged what the person was saying, and then told me he just got yelled at for leaning up against the wall as he talked on the phone. :-)
Good evening, loved ones of PIR 3/16 SR's. I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you over the next couple of weeks. Both of my sons have gone through BC, and we had two different experiences. With my eldest (PIR 3/25/11), the calls & letters arrived on schedule. With my second son (PIR 2/10/12), I only got the "I'm ok" and the "I'm a Sailor!" calls and ONE letter. (His brother got the only other letter sent, and it was "the other half" of mine. My son wrote one long letter and split between us!
Don't worry when things don't seem to go according to plan, or if divisions call and your loved one does not. Here's the thing--sometimes you just have to take each day on faith. AND, with bootcamp--as with other aspects of military life, you don't get a call when all is well. Keep tracking with the posts, make friends, and you will begin to get news of your SR, even if you don't hear directly from him or her.
Take care!

A....dont be sad...from what my daughter told me today there are so many things that are going on and different things they are involved with. My daughter mentioned something about she had duty so she wasnt able to write a letter. I have not received any letters from her and i know other moms have and i waited 3 weeks for the form letter. I just sent her a phone card yesterday so im really not sure how that call was made. She did say that they all have each others backs and if someone needed something and they didnt have it then someone would help them out.My daughter said all her shampoo spilled and so others were sharing with her til she could get more. Your not a bad mom, i think this is time for us moms to also learn to let go a little and let our kids learn to take care of themselves...
Seems like everyone in 03/095 got a call tonight but me! I have not cried through this until now! Im so sad because I know for a fact his phone card could not have gotten there in time and I would hate to think that is why I did not hear from him! But we all know chances are that is probally why. I think the hardest part is I know he is probally so sad too :( Not feeling like a good mom right now!
