I don't care about any policies that people may tell you, I was personally confronted from my SR so maybe everyone should take a chill pill and respect the fact that some things are better left undiscussed, instead of pulling up policies we have all read a bunch of times. Respect the privacy of all SR's somethings written in their letters are for your eyes only.  It is disrespectful to overshare information and I feel disrespected that everyone is blowing this out of proportion I simply brought up a concern that my SR has brought up to me!  I think this conversation should be done.

Oh for Pete's sake...seriously? I hope you SEE the ridiculousness of the FB question.

"you all sit around all day" (italics mine)...Really?...I'd like to know WHEN any of the seasoned moms on this site have said that. THAT would be spreading a rumor.

Honestly...for those of you that have been on this PIR group from the beginning and those that have just joined and may have gone back and read through pages of posts...do you see us "veteran" moms speaking that way about RTC Command Staff?

When I caution about your SR's "flying under the radar" it has nothing to do with their trainers...more so about guiding and teaching you the "military way". I know from experience how it takes time to train yourself...and I had NO ONE to guide me in my early years as a young law enforcement and ANG (then… AF now) Reserve wife! It is done solely for you, your loved one and this Nations Military...not to point fingers at some very dedicated folks like your RDC's.

LaLa's post is not only eloquent but spot on....along with sjtina's and diannep and those by JessicaB SailorMom, Betsy and Sandy in the past.

In fact LaLa...I FOUND the brochure given to me by my sons Recruiters...I am going to photograph it and post it as I am sure no one has ever seen one before.

Also, just in case there is any future question about it...I am going to reread my N4M CG and OPSEC post to make sure it reads well...and revise if need be...I am always open to correction...especially when it means the integrity of this site.

And BTW...when I wrote this...that post was on FB...it has since disappeared...or I am just plain too tired...

I have stayed at the Navy Lodge...so has LaLa.

I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coinides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3  is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.

It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. HAd nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge.

Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).

Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):

They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:

Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!

A` -  As far as civies...Your Sailors will be given an in-depth briefing about the do's and don't of their Liberty. In the past they could change into civies in the privacy of their families hotel room...this may have changed.

All I can tell you is go with what your Sailor says.

The Family Guide and the Rules on Liberty under "Families" on the RTC Website (this is different from the FB one) state this...

Family Guide: (Bold and italics mine)

When you take your Recruit out on liberty, we know you will want to spend as much time with them as possible. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind:

Your Recruit should be given ample time to walk to their ship before the expiration of liberty.

Recruits may not travel more than 50 miles from base during liberty, meaning no further than downtown Chicago.

Recruits may not use alcohol or tobacco products, nor drive a vehicle.

Recruits must remain in uniform at all times.

Recruits may not bring civilian items (clothes, mobile phone, MP3 player, etc.) or food back to RTC.

and...

Your Sailor will receive guidance from their Recruit Division Commander regarding their liberty period on the day of graduation. Your Sailor may be required to check out with their RDC prior to commencing liberty. Please ensure you return to RTC with adequate time for your Sailor to reach his barracks prior to expiration of liberty.

RTC does not have your Recruits liberty or travel schedule, so you will need to stay in contact with them. Only your Recruit and their supervisor know their specific liberty schedule.

Rules on Liberty:( Bold and italics mine)

Liberty is ‘time off’ from the daily routine. Graduating Sailors will be granted liberty to go off-base during the day with their families.

  1. Graduating Sailors may not smoke, drive, or consume alcoholic beverages while on   liberty.
  2. Graduating Sailors must stay within a 50-mile radius of RTC.
  3. Graduating Sailors must remain in their complete uniform while on liberty. If they are engaging in physical activity or swimming, they must be in authorized Navy issued workout gear.
  4. Recruits reporting to A School at Training Support Center Great Lakes will detach from RTC on Friday.  All other recruits will depart on Saturday.  To get the most accurate information please contact your recruit.
  5. Families may not enter the base after graduation and will need to meet graduating Sailors for liberty at the main RTC gate.
  6. Graduating Sailors departing RTC for follow-on training the same day as graduation or in a duty status will be granted limited on-base liberty.
  7. Graduating Sailors receive an in-depth liberty briefing prior to their graduation day.

As far as bringing civies back to their "A" school... I am assuming you mean if they are at TSC at GL (this is NOT RTC but the Main Base in Great Lakes). If so, then yes it was recently reported by one mom that her Sailor was allowed to bring the pair of civies that she had brought him at his request and keep them in his new barracks at GL...he was not allowed to wear them but he could have them. It is my understanding that GL "A" schoolers are on Phase I of their Liberty Status after they process in to their new command there on PIR day.

I have been following 800 divisions since my son left for BC in August 2010 and they get IT for all kinds of things. Using posts on here may be used, but if you are careful and do not link yourself to your recruit with pictures, names, movement, or dates there is nothing to find. Its their way of enforcing what we already know when our boys decided to enlist in Spec Ops. Its nothing against N4Ms, its a early warning  to prepare us for a different way of life for your recruit and his family.

N4Ms has been a place to meet wonderful women and men who know exactly what you are experiencing. Many of us already know that others at home do not understand. We do.

Oh one more thing...does anyone here stayed at the Navy Lodge? It has no pictues per say and its hard to tell if its a nice place to stay. I am looking at both the Navy Lodge and the...I think its called the Radisson or Renasance. Both Navy and the other one have kitchens and I thought that would be nice for a home cooked meal? I dont know what are suggestions on hotels? I dont really have to have a kitchen.

Thanks in advance!

Well, to take our minds off the "what to post" subject I have a question! It may seem silly but here goes....I have read on some of the forums to bring some clothes for them to relax in the room with at the hotel while they visit. I planned that but...some people on the forum said bring extra clothes and they may even be able to take them back on post to A school. Is any of this correct and if so I would love to hear the moms that are now experts at this comments!

Thanks you again for being here!

It is funny they say other sites are not monitored lol. We may not be paid to monitor this site and we may not be an official Navy site but this site is recommended on the Brochure that comes with the form letter and also by many recruiters. We volunteer to monitor this site and do so 7 days a week almost 24 hours a day. We also have strict guidelines about posting names of recruits and obeying OPSEC rules. We enjoy getting to know the moms, wives and other family members on this site and are always ready to answer any questions or concerns they may have. This site is near and dear to our hearts and so are all of you. And, although we know that RDC's do sometimes read posts on here we don't think they do it often or that very many of them do it at all. We want you all to be able to post your comments and ask questions without any fear at all. That is why we suggest that everyone not post any derogatory remarks about any of the RDC's or other staff in Great Lakes or any other bases and that they don't go into great detail about what their Recruit/Sailor says in a call or letter. They need to be able to vent their frustrations to their families without worrying about someone reading it in a post or blog :-) NavyforMoms is doing an amazing job at reaching out to and helping navy families.

For those you who have not gotten a From Letter yet...I have posted a copy of an older one that has no personal info so you can see what one looks like up in the Discussion Forum area.

IF for some reason you do not get your from letter...please write your SR and ask them to write back with the Confidential Password...no one else can give this to you.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on February 12, 2012 at 6:30pm

Also, I concur with LaLa and diannep's posts...don't need to write it all again for you...don't get paranoid...you are here to learn and we are here to help you.

I go through the Discussions to check for things...I try to stay off them (unless you post something I just have to add something too...like and "that happened to me too!) as they are yours...but if I fnd something innapropriate I will notify the member and/or delete the post...If I can I will copy paste and delete the negative info so as not to lose good stuff. Then I will leave a reply on what I did.
