I got the call last night! It was so good to hear his voice. He seems to be doing well.
One of my calls was on a Sunday night at about 9pm, she had missed a call that everyone else got because she was SIQ from having wisdom teeth pulled, I received another call on a Thursday evening about 6:30 and I had one on a Saturday afternoon at about 4:00 I got one on a Monday evening but it was just for info and we got a Friday afternoon call that they earned as a reward for performing well at a PIR before their own. She was in the Choir. I got more calls than I ever expected to get and more letters as well. She was very good about writing, probably because she knew me well enough to know I would drive to GL all the way from NC and scale that wall if I didn't hear from her lol.
lala: Being an RPOC would be put on their military record so I would think that is a good thing! They still have to "earn their way" through A School...not sure it would affect anything there. It probably helps with earning "rate" (rank) at bootcamp though...depending on how well they do. No matter how you look at it, it is a great thing!
My son's calls were always on the weekends, except when he was allowed to call on Thanksgiving morning (had arrived 3 days earlier) and also on Christmas Eve morning. He probably called about 4-5 times while he was there.
proud mom: There is no rhyme nor reason for the timing of the random phone calls that come, so don't try and time it. Just try and have your cell phone on you at all times...including when checking the mail and in the bathroom. Yes, ladies have missed calls during these times...heartbreaking when they stepped back in and saw this. I know it is hard to be a "slave" to your phones for a while, but remember...this is just during bootcamp. Once in A School, they will be able to call more often and text too. I have seen calls at all different times on this site...weekdays, afternoons, evenings....weekends the calls can come at any time. During the weekdays, it would be unusual to have a morning call unless it is an official call for info for the Navy, but you never know. I had my cell with me at all times when my son was there...even had it on the floor by me in my gym class and in my hand (on vibrate) during church.
I agree totally with Lala. Answer ALL calls when they are at bc because again..some didn't answer non-847 numbers only to find out that they had called from another phone (maybe a cell phone of Navy personnel).
Take no chances! Good Morning all!
lol FTLW I had to scroll down to see what I said that was so sweet hahahahaha wrong Lala and it was either one of us being sweet if was the girlfriend bahaha Oh what a journey this is.....
I would say more calls come in the late afternoons or evenings on any day of the week. However, they can and do come at any time of the day so no matter where you are, even in the bathroom keep your phone handy. The area code may not always be 847 so answer any calls from numbers you don't recognize :-D
So glad you heard from him ChipsAhoy, I hope he is feeling better.
I heard from my wonderful sick pouty husband.
It was amazing to hear from him although as per the military the connection was terrible and it sounded like I was shouting at him through a hurricane.
I just want all of you to know that I love him. So much.
I am so grateful he is still essentially alive. :)
Good night, ladies.
I will definitely sleep better tonight.
This is from another post I did...and no...I haven't researched it thoroughly yet LOL!
Enlisted personnel have "rate" not rank...but in BC when you get promoted to the next rate they call it "ranking up"
There are lots of different ways to rank up in BC. Don't know them all and would have to research it! Craig would probabaly be a great source and some of the other veteran moms who's Sailors may have ranked up in BC could tell how theirs did so. Mine didn't :-(. The highest they can go in BC is E-3.)
I do know that those that had been in DEP can take the PQS in BC in their second week and that can gain them advancement. Sometimes just doing exceptional in areas can gain you advancement from an RDC. My son said his Chief played a joke on some recruits. He lined them up and put them in the ready position for 8 counts...yay...then told them that they had all just ranked up!
