Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Navymom315 and navy89 my son is in 809. I am happy to call Sarge this week and have a table for our division and also do name tags. I will just have them at our table for us to write on, or if anybody wants theirs done ahead of time, message me with your real name (I can get your screen name from the message), div #, and sailors'name if you want that too.

HAAA!  Thanks, Abucking.  You are correct in saying there are NO DUMB questions.  We welcome each and every one!

I like that, Fishing Quilter!  I'll put the Div #'s too, of course.

Diannep, you are doing such a wonderful service.  We can ask dumb questions and you are so nice!  Just kidding, I know there are no dumb questions here, just a lot of folks who need new, confusing information.

This PIR group graduates on my son's (sailor) birthday...so I KNOW it will be a good day for all!  :-)

Fishing Quilter:  We didn't have a military background either (other than my father being in the Army Air Corp for 2 yrs back in the early 40's) so this was a new experience for us as well.  I think that is why I have stayed on the PIR groups to help after my son graduated....because I have a heart especially for those who are new to the military!  It is quite an adventure and I have learned alot from the ladies on these groups who do come from military backgrounds!

Good Morning All!

And the 143/144 sign may just have our nickname printed on it, too!!!

@ Abucking:  What will you put?  "The BCC Boot Camp Experience"?  lol

Comment by Fishing Quilter on March 30, 2013 at 12:39am

@ CatMom509 - thanks for the advice.  I'll make sure to make a note of that for Sarge's M&G.

I haven't been on this site much lately; life is taking it's turn at being in the forefront for me, but I do sort of "lurk" via my email notifications.  Since PIR is only 2 weeks away for me now, I want to take the opportunity to thank all of the moms who have made this BC experience much easier for me.  I don't come from a military background, and had no experience with what to expect at all.  The N4M site has been one leg of my milking stool that held me up (the other two were my boyfriend who spent 9 years as a MP in the Army, and the letters from my daughter that arrived every Wednesday without fail -- until this week, when her letter arrived on Friday).  I'm not saying I can tackle anything because of this experience, but I do feel more prepared than I would have, had I not had you all here to help me through.

NAVY MOMS ROCK!
