OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

AndrewB/Mom:  I know this has been the longest week for you and Jewlz. So sorry..... Please make sure that you both join the FIT DIVISION group on here.  Although the group is not terribly active, there are some "veterans" on there who check in some--they are a great help and all had SRs in FIT.  This is where your SRs will be until they pass the run so post on there.  Stay in touch here too...this is your "family" here and always will be!  Your son just about completed bootcamp with his buddies and this is his "home!"  If he didn't order it, you may want to try and order the PIR DVD so he can see his division at PIR.  Would be a nice momento for him since he trained with them and they ARE his shipmates!

AndrewB/mom, I am so sorry about your son. I know he will be sad and it is upsetting, but something good will come out of it. He is still in the Navy, will be a sailor, and will become a great person. My heart breaks cause I know it would be so hard if I were in your shoes. But it will be ok. Hopefully you will hear some good news. Hugs to you and keeping you in my prayers.

*megahugs*  Your son will be a Sailor before long, this is a horribly rough time now, and I'm so very sorry! But when he's moved on and living his Navy life, it will fade into a story to groan over with his friends. Be sure to stay in touch with the moms you've met here, you'll meet a new batch if he truly is changing to another PIR group!
