~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.
~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.
~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.
~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:
• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:
• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.
Some Suggestions:
~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.
~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option
~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

yes, was disappointing not to get a call this weekend. Keeping positive that all is going well for them. Had the courage to continue working on cleaning up his room. I walk in a smell him and I just couldn't do anything. So I now have a few shirts in zip lock bags and the rest are now going through the laundry. Ugh! why is this so hard. I know he is where and doing what he wants to do. This emptynester is having a roller coaster of emotions this week. Ugh!.
Well, like many of us, no call this weekend. We have had three calls to date and two really long letters that were actually a compilation of letters that he was able to write on different days. In his last call, he did say that he would probably not be able to call again until after Battle Stations. So, my wife and I continue to have a phone with us at all times just in case but will try not to be too disappointed if he does not call for a couple of weeks. It is, after all, downhill from here!
So he is a GM and will be at GL A School for sure. Gunners Mate is his rating (same as "job"). "Rate" would be paygrade, anywhere from E-1 through E-3 during bootcamp. Just a small Navy terms lesson! :-)
Good Morning All!
diannep,it is me again........I have no idea what his rating is..........I know he will be a gunners mate..........Thx........
25 days and counting down.................Good morning and a Monday morning at that..............Cannot wait to see my son and meet you other moms as well.............
diannep,I went ahead and booked a flight for my daughter to come home on Saturday night and I am staying thru Monday.........Not taking any chances, you seem to be on top of things.........I can drive home myself from St Louis, only 5-6 hours tops.........I will not leave him at all if he has free time.......My daughter is 30 with 3 children 3 and under........Yep,3,2,and the baby turns 1 on May 26th....That is why she is lucky to be getting away for a couple of nights and thrilled............The other 2 tickets go to my recruits son who is 3 and his mama...........They live in Chicago so easy for them.....Thanks again, her flight is booked and I have 4 nights booked at Ramada in case I need them........Hope everyone has a good week.........Maybe we will all get mail............Or not........
So bummed I didn't get a call today. This continues to remind me that I shouldn't have expectations because just as soon as you do they change. I hope they are doing well and not in trouble.
maryanne: Yes, he will get orders for A School, but if he knows that his A School is in GL, then he will have the daytime Liberty. What is his job (rating)?
And, no the recruiter is not correct. He will be on "hold" until he classes up at A School....so he won't be able to come home. Not sure why they tell some this....because it doesn't happen except for during Christmas break when those sailors PIR during the Christmas stand down. Then some of them do get to come home before A School.
Sherry, thanks for the good news.......My son is in that division as well,so happy they are all doing well......diannep,thank you as well. I sure hope you are right. But does he not have to wait for orders to be certain? His recruiter also mentioned that if his school does not start till June he could come back to St Louis with me.....I guess I will know when he knows........If I had thru Memorial Day I would be thrilled..............
