~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

I just wish I could get a form letter period. She is worried to mention it again right now.

Yup, every RDC has their differences. Just do whatever your recruit advises :-)

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on May 7, 2013 at 6:05pm

Tell your recruits to make sure that their boots are laced up snuggly (like a second skin), not constricting, but snug. If their foot can slide in their boot sometimes that allows blistering.

It may help somewhat....

ambi9821... Your post is very interesting and thanks for sharing.  My SR brought a few strips of moleskin with him (in his wallet) to BC.  During the one phone call I rec'd from him about 10 days ago, he said that he had huge blisters and I should send more mole skin.  I have sent him a couple of strips in every letter since then.  He is in 219 so maybe the rules are different ... but I think I'll send some bandaids too!

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on May 7, 2013 at 5:56pm

I'm confused too. There are over 6000 + recruits at any given time at RTC. (I am not trying to say someone is not telling the truth at all - no offense at all BeachBunny-just trying to sort it out in my head) That's a lot of passwords to keep track of.

Also, if a Recruit is delayed in training and does not graduate on time, the PAO will give out the password for the new PIR date to the holder of the Form Letter (must have the Form Letter with the original Password on it to do so or they won't). It is the only time they ever give out that info. If you misplace or lose your Form Letter they won't give it out to you.

Would love to see if we can get more info on this so we can be current.

Just wanted to share this with div. 213 loved ones.  My SR called today (for more security info), but we were able to talk for a long time.  He said he was beginning to get blisters from the boots.  He said that the division had X amount of bandaids in their pool, and all were used up.  He also said they were not allowed to have moleskin.  I asked if he could buy band aids at the NEX, and he said no.  He tried to buy them, but they took them off.  Apparently, the ones in their "pool"  were supposed to last the whole time.  He did, however, say that they could receive them by mail.  I sent 3-4 taped to paper in 2 different envelopes today.  I didn't want to go over the 1-stamp limit.  I will continue to send 2-3 with each letter. Your SR's may have all they need, but I wanted to post this just in case.  He seemed to be happy since they have begun "real" training.

Comment by diannep on May 7, 2013 at 5:30pm

Yes, I'm very confused by the "password" info posted?  My son had one issued to him by RTC which he wrote in his form letter.  When he was delayed for a week, and therefore changed PIR groups, I had to contact RTC with the old PIR date/password and they gave me another one to be used for the new PIR date gate pass.

So, you all are saying that the SRs can makeup their own password?  Maybe it is something where they can make it up if they want to, they tell the RDCs who make a note of it, and that is the one that SR uses?  I know that the one my son used the first time would not be a word he would have picked.  So I'm guessing that if they don't make one up, they are assigned one.

Comment by diannep on May 7, 2013 at 5:26pm

DevllinSide:  Sounds like she has some very extra special RDCs who are letting them call more often!  YAH!

Comment by DevilinSide on May 7, 2013 at 5:12pm

I just got a random call from my daughter... 3:30 on a Tuesday, boy that made me nervous.  This is the 3rd call I've gotten from her not including the 'I'm Here" call.  She sounded great and she's doing really well.  We only talked for about 5 minutes but this proved to me that a call really can come at anytime.  I just talked to her on Sunday and never expected another call so soon.  Glad I had my phone with me.  Every time I talk to her she laments about not having her hair products or eyebrow pencil.  I'm starting to think she misses that stuff more than me!

Comment by ellen0502 on May 7, 2013 at 5:08pm

The password is something that is not to be shared by anyone but your SR.

From the RTC family guide.

To access the gate pass, you must input a password provided by your Recruit. If you did not receive this password in the initial letter sent by the Recruit, you should write your Recruit and request the password. You may also ask for the
password over the phone if and when your Recruit calls. RTC is unable to provide this password to you.
The password must be obtained from your Recruit.
