N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Hmmm, seansmom.  That would be great and we always tell you all to try and book your return on Sunday, just in case.  Just know that sometimes the RDCs tell them things that are not always true...many are told that they cannot have family visit them at the airports when flying out....so NOT true.

There is no way they would know this early when the flights would be and they normally try to get them on Saturday.  They usually only fly on Sunday when they can't get flights.

Having SAID that...yes, sometimes they DO fly out on Sunday. so fingers crossed that this is true!

Yes, lori.  Sometimes flights are cheaper into Milwaukee WI and almost always car rental is cheaper.  And you are right...no traffic.  Midway in GOOD traffic is an hour away, but most times, it takes much longer to get to GL from there.  However, if someone has a sailor flying out for A School, they will be flying from Midway and OHare.  I understand that they are getting a USO in Milwaukee, so soon, maybe they will fly from there too, but not yet.

So, for those flying into Milwaukee but wanting to visit with a sailor flying out, make sure you book your flight from Milwaukee home late in the weekend---so you will have plenty of time to visit at the airport in Chicago with your sailor...you can sightsee after your sailor leaves!

oneproudmom:  There is also a MeetandGreet at the Ramada you are staying at from 6-8, so you may want to drop by that one first, then head over to Sarge's.  His will have more info, but many enjoy Ramada's too.  That one is more of a "meet each other" only but Sarge actually speaks and gives you all great info.

It is Milwaukee, WI. It is only about 45 minutes from Great Lakes, IL. I think several people have said that flights are cheaper flying into Milwaukee. Midway is about 47 miles from GL but you are traveling through Chicago traffic. O'Hare airport is closer to GL, but would most likely take the same amount of time traveling from Milwaukee. I think you would be fine with any of the 3 choices so I would go with the cheapest flights from where you are traveling from. All that being said, I haven't personally made the trip from any of the airports to the RTC and we will be driving from Eau Claire, WI for our son's PIR. :)

Our son is in ship 14 Div 224.

Anyone else?

When we talked to my son last Saturday (Ship 3, Division 222), he said they were told they were getting 2 days liberty, so he would not be flying out on Saturday.  I'm surprised they were told so early in the game.  Maybe it's a new policy??

"Sarge's Meet and Greet" is on Thursday night.  Begins 5:30 PM at the Sundance Saloon Waukegan, 300 Lakehurst Rd., Waukegan.

My SR's PIR is 6/14/2013. I need to know what day and time the Meet n Greet is. We plan to stay at the Ramada Inn. We are planning to take Southwest Airlines. It seems that they land in Midway and Milwaukee. Does that mean Milwaukee, WI or is it Milwaukee, IL? LOL!  This is very confusing to us. We have never been to IL before! Could someone give us that information? Thanks a bunch!

ochaos:  Did they actually fly out Friday night, or were they just bussed to the airports like around midnight?  We had been told by RTC that they do not fly out on Friday...but will be sent to the airports Friday night/wee hours of Sat. morning.  First flights usually leave around 6 a.m. and go throughout the day.

Unless there has been a change in this!  Sometimes the RDCs tell them they will fly out on Friday, but so far, we have never found this to be true!   Will try to research that to see what is the policy now.  Thanks!

Good Morning All !

Once you start getting letters you will probably get them the same day every week, those will be the days you stalk your mailman for the mail, lol!

Just got back from PIR and some were flown out to A school on Friday night. If they are staying at GL they will move over after PIR and then get liberty, we had my son from 6 am to 10pm but remember many things change, with my first we did not have him that length of time.

Just know that no news is good news, they are in good hands and are being taken care of, if something were wrong you would be notified.

Caitsmamma:  On Southwest, first TWO bags check for free!  Ladies, be sure to check out the sale Caitsmamma mentioned Southwest is having now.  They fly into either Milwaukee (45 minutes to GL) or Chicago-Midway (hour+ to GL, but if your sailor is flying out for A School and you plan a visit with them there, this is one of the airports that they use).
