Lala, my aunt who lives in VA, not far from DC is a retired Navy nurse, my uncle was a Navy transport pilot (he hauled Bob Hope around for USO (didn't like him whole other story...lol))anyhow, write to your Senator and tell him you are going with your Sailor to see the sights, have never been before and would like some recommendations as to what to see, you may get some non-public passes.
For anyone on this site who has a LinkedIn account. I saw on the news today that their member info was hacked and passwords and other info compromised. They said if you have a LinkedIn account you should change your password immediately. Just thought I would share because I know many of you are on that site.
That is awesome betsy, have a great time with her. I am planning to go to VA this fall to see my Sailor and we are going to do a 2 or 3 day trip to Washington. I have never been there and it is only a few hours from her. I guess now it depends on if she gets deployed like we think will be happening :-(
Hi ladies, I was spending the day with my daughter so didn't get a chance to check in on here. She is only home from college for just a couple of more days, so I may be scarce. We went to tea today and saw a movie. Tomorrow we are taking the train to Wash, DC and going to the National Zoo and maybe time permitting, go to one of the Smithsonian buildings. I'll try to check in when I can.
Some friends and I have started a group on facebook that is private. You can come to our group and we will be there to answer questions when you need us and you can post comments and meet other friends there who also have recruits at bootcamp. I am trying to figure out if you have to be a facebook friend of mine in order to join the group. So if anyone would like to join this group whether you have a recruit in bootcamp or you are a mom who has been through it already and would to help let me know. try this link and see if it will let you request to join. If not let me know on here and I will add you as a friend on facebook to get you into the group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/ I hope it works :-) You just have to promise to come to this page daily and post comments and news and catch up with other :-)
Don't forget about the questionnaire I posted to the discussions above. now is a great time to send it and it is funny and has some very encouraging words in it. You may have to tweak it a little to make it your own since my Sailor is a girl :-)
I wrote about everything I could think of. I wrote about the cops showing up at our neighbors house. About the idiot that ran a red light and nearly hit me. I stalked her face book page and told her friends to private message me if they wanted her address and if they just want to post comments I would copy and paste those and send to her. I watched her favorite TV show every week then wrote about everything that happened lol. I also wrote down lyrics to the songs that she really likes. they have no music there so she loved that. Heck you could even find some short stories like from readers digest and print one of those and send one a week or something. Also you can look up all the info on their rate/job they will be doing and share that info in letters. I knew more about my daughters rate when she finished boot camp than she did do she really appreciated all the info. The important thing is to keep sending those letters.
Hoss: Yes, you are correct. Div 205/206 will go first and together (brother divisions go together) through BattleStations. It is an overnight drill so the "I'm a Sailor" calls come in the next afternoon. They do BattleStations at 6-5 (training week 6, day 5--remember, this count is different from bootcamp week/day count because it doesn't include processing days at the beginning/extra days before PIR)). They PIR during training week 7. They usually start BattleStations the week before PIR week.
We can't post exact dates on this site...not allowed to--can only private message them...re: BattleStations (RTC's request), but you are in the "ballpark" with the date you gave...we actually haven't received any dates yet from the SRs so just guessing. Won't be long now though! If you get a date from your SR, please friend request/message it to me as I will be keeping a schedule. Thanks!
Thursday!!!!!!!! Hopefully mail day!!!
Thanks for posting info on about BS. I thought I understood the phone calls to be the night they arrive, in 3 weeks, and after the 6 weeks after P-Week. But if I am now understanding correctly, after P-Week, 6 weeks of Boot Camp, they take turns doing BS, and after they pass they make that phone call. My son is DIV 205, so looks like that would be first to do BS if they go in order like noted and I should expect a call by about 6/29? If so, GREAT INFO! Thank you!
