If I remember right there is a Airport Express bus to GL and it costs about $40 per person. You can take a cab although I would think not inexpensive and you can take a bus to Evanston walk to the train etc.to get you to the GL area.
When we looked at renting a car we found that it wasn't really any more expensive to rent at the airport than get a car "locally".
Don't worry about driving from the airport in Chicago to GL it really isn't terrible. If you have a smart phone use the navigator we found it to be spot on everywhere we went, you don't need to "rent" the GPs from the car company..
Is there public transportation from OHare to the Greal Lakes area? I am flying into ORD and I know I will need to rent a car but I didn't know if it would be easier to take the train or bus out to the general area and get the car there. Also, I have never driven in Chicago traffic! Any suggestions?
juliebelle, we must have posted at the same time. :)
If you would like to find out if your SR is friends with loved ones of some of the ladies on here, please state your inquiry in a private message to the group. Thank you. Now is a great time to start practicing OPSEC rules.
Amber, yes that could be quite normal. Please try to remember that in the Navy "no news is good news". Unless you have heard that there is a problem from your SR, then there probably isn't one to worry about. My son only called 3 times during BC and it always seemed (at least to me) that all of the other divisions were allowed phone calls all the time. Your SR's RDC may just not be allowing as many phone calls as the others do for various reasons.
As far as the "I'm A Sailor" calls, we have always advised the ladies on here to ask their SR's if everyone in their division had passed their BS and to post it on here when they do know. This way if an SR is not able to call, for one reason or another, the ladies on here will know that all in the division had passed.
So happy for the phone calls :-) Hopefully more to come soon.
familything, Yay!
We just got a phone call!!! I answered the phone and didn't know who it was. He said hi a couple times and then had to say "mom, it's me -----" I didn't expect him to call on the home phone! I've been a slave to my cell. So good to hear him. He said they all get an hour to call. We got half and his girlfriend got half. He said he sent a letter out Sunday so we should get a letter maybe tomorrow too! It's a GREAT day! there goes my phone...his girlfriend just text me...she's a happy girl too!
Sorry diannep - worked on this some last night and going off memory this late in the date = not good! What I should have said was there were 3 meetings/greetings that I knew of, one being at Flannagans was next to Red Carpet Inn that fit a good price and event though I saw the miles to the Station, I have no idea what traffic is so wanted the closest just in case. Where I am from it is back roads and little traffic, so not too patient when I have to be in it! Thanks for the info though as may make sure we get over to Sarge's regardless of our stay location. Some of the other reveiws I read were under the dicussions of "where to stay", "rent cars or shuutle", "great places to eat", etc that is under PIR Reference Information. Good place to start for those looking. Thanks diannep
