HossLuvinNavyMom: Not sure I understood your post correctly---there is a MeetNGreet at the Ramada and at Flannigans, but it is not Sarge's MeetNGreet. His is at the Sundance Saloon, which is in the area of the Residence Inn Waukegan, Springhill Suites, and Courtyard hotels--near Walmart center. About 4-5 miles from RTC. Everything in the GL area is pretty close, by the way. Only took us about 8-10 minutes to get to RTC on PIR morning by shuttle (we stayed at Residence).
Over the years, we have heard mixed reviews on the Ramada as a hotel...some like it fine, others have not. Some complained of a "smell", others didn't notice. So hard to say...different strokes for different folks! :-)
Mom2TJ: Yes, all of the MeetNGreets are nice, but Sarge's has the most info. The others are just a place to get to know one another...nothing wrong with that, but for those wanting some info too, Sarge's is good. Some try to get to a couple of the MeetNGreets if they have time.
misskatiebabie, hang in there, I am sure the call will come soon, maybe not today but soon. Sometimes they get promised a call and then it gets taken away. If they did poorly on a test or inspection or heck if the RDC is in a bad mood. It could also be that the phones were not available. Sadly the calls usually do not come on the day the recruits write home to expect it. So keep you phone close by and hopefully it won't be too much longer.
HossLovinNavyMom- as long as I have your order and payment 10 days before PIR you will still get them in plenty of time. You can order them a little later than that an still get them on time as well. And of course you can go ahead and order them now if you like. I like to stay ahead on orders :-) Here is the link to order http://www.uniquememorymakers.com/ you can also send me a message on this site or an email to uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com If you have any questions just let me know :-)
Does anyone know the closest meet n greet to the Navy Lodge? and I know someone gave me Sarge's cell # a while ago but I cant seem to find what i did with it so if I can have that again I would greatly appreciate it :) I am sooo scatter brained these days lol....
Oh yea, sorry, forgot. A king bed was $55.00 night, Navy PIR rates.
misskatiebabie, I would probably be a little apprehensive too if my SR had said that in a letter then didnt get a call, it just makes my heart ache for you :(... but also keep in mind that that is the "military way" things change in the blink of an eye, what is true one day may not be true the next. I pray you get your call soon :) Just know that if it was anything serious keeping him from calling you, they would let you know asap. You are in my thoughts and please keep us posted on when your call does come (I am confident it will) :)
Hi all, thanks for all the replies! Don't feel so dumb for feeling this way so much now - EXCITED - Thurs tomorrow!!! I live in CA, by Sac, and have received mail 3X now on a Thurs and once was a holiday that Monday. But someone I know up in Redding whose SR is on the same ship, different Div, seems to be a day behind from the time the box and form letter came. I looked at the brochure that came in the first form letter after the box and there is a nice chart of motels/ect and what they offer, like shuttle to PIR, coffee in the room etc. I read reviews on this forum that the Ramada (a Sarges mtg is there, only 2 hours) was OK, but the on-line reviews were not so kind and my husband is fussy about hotels - I am use to camping in the horse trailer lots and not so picky. Of course there are WAY nicer places but the trip in general is starting to add up, so trying to stay down to earth. Besides, don't plan to be at the hotel lots. The Red Carpet Inn is right next to Flannagans (another Sarge's mtg - 3 hour+) and is closet to PIR. The only thing they did not have for me that counted was in-room coffee, but it is available 24 hrs in the lobby (please hubby, go get mine so I can have it while getting ready in the am - he is sweet like that!!!). We need a car as Midway Airport is over an hour from the motel and would like to go places if want, as staying til Sunday, esp if our son gets delayed. But I spoke to our insurance company (State Farm) and they said even though our coverage covers rentals, it does not cover the "loss" if they are out use because we have an accident, so he suggest to get that covered when renting and advised they work with Hertz which is at Midway Airport, so we will probably do that one. Will look into others recommend ones though, like Priceline. Also, your credit cards may cover rental cars, as I was just notified, and I will contact mine - heck, if I am going to pay to fix a car, it will be ours! Can't wait to get there, will also be nice to meet my new "forum friends. PS - I do not look like my photo!
Hi all... just wanna re-iterate girls that no news is really good news... As some of you are aware my son was due to PIR on 6/22.. then I got the "phone call" that he had been injured and at that time they thought he would be set back 6-8 weeks! Thank God it was only a sprain and he was only set back 2 weeks but still devastating to him to watch his original div go on without him... so I seriously pray for no phone call... that was a very devastating phone call and I never want to go through that again and do not wish any of you gals to ever have to go through that with your SR... So truly and honestly, as much as it is nice to hear their voice, just keep in mind that if they are not calling, then everything is going exactly the way it is supposed to be going... :)
