My Sailor/daughter wanted to mess with her husband while he was at bootcamp because he had done it to her when she was there. She drew hearts, XOXOX, and flowers and wrote I love you all over the envelope lol. I asked her if she was worried about him getting "ribbed" over it and she said heck yeah that's why I am sending them lol. No one said a word about it or if they did he never let her know about it.

Oh boy, Britt.  Pink envelopes and polka dot envelopes.  I dunnno....he must have some very understanding and nice RDCs not to mess with him about that!  We N4Moms veterans have been on here long enough to hear horror stories from SRs who write home or eventually call and say:  STOP SENDING THEM--TIRED OF BEING MESSED WITH !  But since you have been given the green light by your SR, than ok!

Don't mean to burst a bubble, they won' throw it away but...Please don't send glitter. The stuff is invasive and hard to clean up. They have regular inspections and we all know how even just one piece of glitter shines like a beacon. They get "hits"...points off during inspections. Send another and save the glitter one for PIR. :-)

Thanks britt you gave me a good idea because I wasn't sure what day to send him my card...I was thinking he probably wouldn't get it that day....would they throw my glitter one away? I got him a glitter one yesterday without knowing only the front is glittery

If you are set on sending colored envelopes, (although we highly discourage it) I would find some that would fit inside the white envelopes that you address to your SR.  I have to tell this story since polka dots are cute.  I was flying in to Florida to see my son at his A school and had a pink polka dot carry on bag.  As I approached the security gate, the TSA employee picked it up and asked whose bag it was.  I told him it was mine and he said "I have to open this one and search it, just because it's so cute".   He was very nice and joked about it, and of course I had nothing in it that sent out a red flag.  I didn't have too, since the bag itself stood out among the others.  You can believe that I never used that carry on again.  I didn't see the point in standing out among all the others.  Just a thought...... to consider here.

Liz- they have the cutest envelopes at office depot! They are white with bright colored polka dots on them! I am now alternating them with the pink. Just make sure your card is simple... no glitter or sound type of cards. My husbands bday is the 21st and I just went to target and bought 10 different $1 cards. I figured I would mail them daily starting a week before his bday.... he is bound to get at least one on his actual bday, right? Lol also ladies.... don't forget to mail cards out next week for fathers day!! We don't have any kids, but he will be getting a card from the dogs :)

Ladies, please do remember that the RDC's can all be different.  I would have to agree that sending white envelopes is the best course to take.  Even if one division commander doesn't seem to bother them about colored envelopes, others may certainly do so and will give them a hard time about them.  You wouldn't want to have your SR stand out from the crowd.

For those who may want to bring pets to reunite with their sailors, Residence Inn Waukegan is pet friendly!  They offer studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth suites/full kitchens.  They are close to Sarge's MeetNGreet, have PIR shuttle, are about 4-5 miles from RTC, and have a free buffet breakfast.  We enjoyed our stay there.

CaraM:  To add to Lala's post about the PIR DVD, there is more info about pictures/DVD up above in the Discussion Forum.  I believe the PIR DVD is $29. We never spotted our sailor during PIR...sad...so we were thrilled to get the PIR DVD so we could see him!  You can ask your SR to order it when ordering pictures, or order it after PIR in the NEX.

Hi, Lala!

LizSailor'sWife:  You are welcome!

Comment by Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons on June 5, 2012 at 8:25am

You are very welcome :-)

CaraM, make sure you get the DVD so you can share PIR with your family who can't be there. You will get to see him up close and personal on the video with him being in the choir :-)

Good Morning Diannep!
