I will share with you something my daughter told me about getting letters. She said in the mornings they get up to yelling, they are yelled at, screamed at and cussed at. Sometimes, especially in the beginning they feel like they can do nothing right. Throughout the day they are worked hard and yelled at some more, screamed at and cussed at and pushed to do better. It is all their way of breaking them down so they can bring them back up to become strong Sailors who stand tall and proud. She said by the end of the day you are drained emotionally and physically. Just before time for bed they are all standing at the end of their racks, toes on a line. It is then that the names are called one at a time to receive their mail. It is the greatest thing in the world, so much better than Christmas to hear their name called. And the saddest thing in the world to see another recruit going to her rack empty handed. Sometime the girls would have their heads down so no one would see the tears. Reading our letters each night is what makes them feel like they can push through and survive another day. I don't think it is any different for the guys. So no matter what anyone tells you write those letters and write a lot of them. If they can make it through all they have to do in one day it is the least we can do to write them a letter of encouragement each day. If you run out of things to write about let us know. We have lots of ideas like letters from the pets :-) one mom even sent her grocery list and made her son laugh. Believe me they will appreciate each and every letter you send.
Twinsmom and toni17...did either of you get a call yet? No call here or even a letter this week, disappointed, but trying to be patient.
;-))
thank you guys so much for support! i was thinking i should just stop writing all together because of how bad they put me down but your comments have made me so much more confident. i'll make sure to keep writing =]] no phone calls yet or letters for me though. his parents got a letter. poor thing is struggling. i dont think he had gotten my letters though when he wrote to his parents. i hope what i wrote gave him the strength to not be so depressed. =// it sucks being on this side of the fence.. so depressing =//
katiebabie....not kiatiebabie.....sorry....typing too fast!
kiatiebabie: You will find if people are not military families or past military familiies, they just don't "get this." I finally stopped talking to my family about military stuff when my son was at bootcamp. They just didn't get it...they tried, just didn't understand. I found understanding here on this site where others were feeling as I was!
misskatiebabie: DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE. HE LVES GETTING MAIL! I have been writing my SR (boyfriend) every single day sometimes twice, and his brother recently tried to discourage me and tell me it was wierd but don't listen to what other people say, know that your SR loves mail and it is what keeps them going!!! I just got my call yesterday and I asked him if I shouldn't be sending mail every day and he said no way! it is what he keeps going for. Keep it up!
GOT MY CALL YESTERDAY! Plus six more letters!!! BEST DAY IN 27 DAYS! <3 <3 <3
Keep writing, katiebabie! I'm sure he loves every one of them!
