Oh wow, Tyelersmom. I sure hope it isn't anything terribly serious, but I know anything involving blood like that has to be investigated. Let's hope it isn't too serious and that he will be ok. Prayers....
well I got a phone call from my son today.. it was about 25min long.. so nice to hear his voice and he said he is doing great there and he leads "something" and he is really settleing back into his routine.. bad news is that he said he has vomited blood a few times so now they are doing blood work and sending him to a gastroenterologist to see why... has anyone else had this experience? Where it turned out good? He said if they want to send him home for that after all this, he will be soo mad.. I am just so worried about him...
I know this may sound like a crazy request but It would be great if some of you would check this page daily and comment about news from your soon to be Sailors. We have moms on this group and others who are not comfortable on computers yet and for some of them this is their first experience with any social network. Lots of them don't have facebook and they come here for info. Many have never posted a comment and may never do so. but they do appreciate all the news you share and would love to get to know some of you. I think if there was more activity on the PIR group pages they may come out of hiding and share their news as well. You would be surprised at how many emails I have received from members who are out there looking for some encouragement and new friends. Thanks so much for those who do post comments here. I know this site is how I survived the weeks my daughter was at boot camp and I still love and appreciate all the friends I made on Navy for Moms; it is near and dear to my heart <3
Here is some additional info on the Navy Lodge:
I stay military when I can...hubby has been AF Reserves for 27 years, son is the Sailor...so I have dependant ID. You don't need it for this Navy Lodge. You tell them it is for PIR and they may ask for your Recruits Name and Rate (Navy enlisted have "rate" not rank...it coincides with their pay grade E-1 to E-9 for enlisted. E-3 is the highest rate they can "rank up" too in BC). They may also ask you to bring them by to verify...but I always forget if that is enforced.
It is clean, I did not get a kitchenette as those are first come first serve. We had to queens and a rollaway.TV with DVD player, microwave, small fridge etc. Had nice furniture and a lobby with a fireplace. Hot coffee 24/7. Vending machines (variety...even one with alcohol! You have to get tokens at the desk for this.) Coin laundry, You can buy Computer time (these look exactly like the ones I saw in Recruit phone Computer room at the NEX) and pay for printer usage. Computers are in front of the elevators on each floor. WiFi has a charge. They do not have a Shuttle Service...but you can ask to arrange for a taxi...again here is where Sarge can come in handy!(SARGE AT 847-212-0246)
Lobby has DVD's for rent, post cards and a Curio with some Navy items for sale. They will give you a temporary pass to use at the small NEX down the road...there is also a gas station (don't need a pass for that).
It runs about $65.00 a night...no tax.
Here is a pic of the pass (courtesy of Craig):
They do a brown bag breakfast daily...was great for PIR. Bagel, cream cheese, chewy granola bar and large OJ...all in this bag:
Was great for PIR! I don't have pictures of the outside...only our messy hotel room!
The NL is about 1.5 miles from RTC. It is not on base but it is in some of the base housing area.
We also stayed at the Navy Lodge. When you call the hotel directly you can ask if a kitchenette is available if you think you will need one. The rooms with a kitchenette are the same price as a regular room. Like others have said the staff was very friendly and the beds were super comfortable. We drove up so we had our own car. Most of the time you can rent a car from enterprise for the whole weekend cheaper than the taxi ride from the airport to the hotel and back. When you check in ask them at the front desk and they will give you a pass for shopping at the NEX just down the street. Normally you can only shop there with Military ID. We went to the meet and greet at the Ramada and had a wonderful time. Sarge did not have one back in 2010.
Here is Sarges phone number 847-212-0246. I recommend sending him a text message first and let him know what you are wanting, he will call you back.
Great Info ladies.. How does one get ahold of Sarge when I do need a ride?
We stayed at the Navy Lodge for my sons PIR and I will stay there again. It was $65 a night and no tax. The staff there was very friendly and helpful.
We also rented a car which came in handy for picking up my son and dropping him off at night (he stayed in GL for A School). Sarges taxi service is great and my son and his buddies now call him when they need a taxi to and from base.
I second the vote from Betsy on Residence Inn Waukegan. We enjoyed it there! Great place for larger groups where you need 3 separate sleeping areas (2 bdrm units...sleeper sofa in living room). Full kitchens, close to Sarge's MeetNGreet. Book early...they fill up.
