~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

Luke's mom,

Especially since there isn't an "edit" button here, but you can always Copy and Paste it into a new Comment box to make corrections, then delete the incorrect one by hitting the X in the upper right corner of your posts.

ellen - Walang anuman!  or I could use the new 'hip" term of Mabuts instead of Mabuti....

Not sure if I showed you, my wife and I went on a medical mission 2 months ago. We went with 9 US doctors and 11 dentist.  We provided medical and dental care to about 4000 people.  You wouldn't believe how many teeth we pulled on the basketball courts in the various towns. People in the US really don't understand and appreciate the fluoride in the water.

Since I was the token white guy, my job was to teach kids how to brush their teeth.  It ended up being a English class.  I was asked about a zillion questions just so they could practice their English.  I tried to answer in Tagalog but they were ticked.   They wanted to learn the true way to talk English, not the text book version.  So I taught them what my daughter taught me, just say the word "Like" every other word..... Luckily my sailor vocabulary never was heard.

Thank you Craig, diannep and ellen0502...  for the info and the chuckle!  Will keep my credit card handy!  :)

Oooh Craig, Magandang gabi. Kamusta ka na?

And if you ask I will only respond with Mabuti lang ako, salamat, because that is all I know...LOL

kpbmamma:  The Navy usually pays for a ticket from A School to duty station.  If he takes Leave, he can alter the ticket and pay the difference.  There are travel personnel at the bases to help them with this.   But he will need a way to pay for the "extra" so if you are going to help him pay for it, he will need your credit card number!  :-)

It could have been worse, it could have spelled "Yo mamma", then you would really be ticked at me.... ~ha

Sorry, I'm on a iPad right now and misspelled "ko mamma"....

Ko mamma - Your son will be eligible for RAP duty once he completes his training after his school ( ie not boot camp) at GL. This is the only time he will be able to utilize this awesome program. He will never get the chance again. RAP duty allows sailors to work at the recruiting station and not have to use any leave (vacation) time. They have to pay their own way there, but it's a great way to have fun and talk to future sailors. It's 5 days long, and then they can use additional leave time if they want to stay in town longer. A sailor is a fool not to take advantage of this GREAT program....

Hi all!  I have a question!  My son is undesignated so will stay at GL for an additional three weeks of training after PIR.  After that, he'll be able to come home for 2-3 weeks.  How does he get home at that point?  Is he responsible for travel expenses from GL home and then to where ever he is assigned?  How does that work later, too, with vacations, leave between assignments (if there is such a thing).  Thanks for the info!
