Safe travels everyone!!! It is almost here!!!
rmcurtis, you too. I never thought a phone call would feel so damn good. I mean, I'm overwhelmed and he didn't say it at first and I said "SAY IT" and then he did and I cried....lol. I'm sure they all got emotional, it's so much hard work and they did it! They soooo did it! So proud to be an American! Our SR's are gonna make a difference in this world. They pushed themselves beyond their limits. As for my son, who couldn't swim worth a darn, practiced before he left, failed the first time and pushed himself enough to pass the 2nd time. They all wanted it so bad and did it! There are no words. I'm so glad that I was able to talk to all of you. Can't wait to meet you tmo, I hope we figure out who we all are! lol
If your sailor is staying in GL keep your gate pass, you may be able to use it to drive on to base. If you can use it for the weekend your sailor will have to be with you in the car, you can't just drive in on your own.
Your sailor will meet you at the main gate which is by the visitor center each time they are able to leave. You will have to go back with them to check them out. When you take them back to base for the evening, you must go back with them to check them back in. The person checking them out must be the same person to check them back in.
It is quite the distance from the main gate to their ship, so allow your sailor and yourself plenty of time to walk to their ship if you can't drive them back. They cannot be late to check in, and "on time" is late.
If you are able to go to the visitors center and wait for them to call, do so. It is great to stand outside the visitors center, listen to the cadences of those heading to the gate, and then watch them march down the street to the gate. The anticipation when you hear a group coming and wondering if it is your sailor, is almost as good as waiting for the door to open at PIR.
Proud to be an American has always been a favorite song around our house. In the elementary school all of our kids attended, the students would argue over who's turn it was to sing it at the spring concert. It was a tradition and no one wanted to miss their chance to sing it.
1 day 2 hours 44 minutes til PIR!
Thanks Sharbear now I am emotional, again! Just the thought of Proud to be an American has my tears streaming down my face! And for all the hard work all the Sailors did at Boot camp. I am going to be a mess Friday! Congrats again on your sailor...
