flgirltwo: Thanks so much for posting here to help! We so appreciate you joining our N4Moms team! Congrats to your new sailor!
Good Morning Everyone! My sailor graduated GL on 05/18/12 and is now in A school in Pensacola. If you have any questions - I'd be glad to help!
We have several questionnaires but some RDC's don't like them. So if you send one just send it with a letter and don't make the envelope bulky. Maybe send some stamps and ask them to please send it back all filled in :-)
I can tell you it is almost impossible to figure out without a dated letter from your recruit telling you what week and day it is. Sometimes the form letter take two weeks or a little longer to arrive. The first real letters usually arrive about the 3rd week they are there. They normally are able to write on the 3rd Sunday they are there but that is not written in stone and neither is anything else. It is totally up to the RDC. They have to train someone to handle the mail because it is a fed job so that is why it takes so long. The "I'm still alive" call should come during their 4th week there which would be about the 3rd week of training. But all this depends on how long they were in Processing days. I would write out some questions of the things you want to know on a separate piece of paper with your next letter and leave a space for them to answer the questions and ask them to fill in the blanks and send it back. Be sure to ask "what is today's date? What week and day is it? Then ask other things like fav food, friends, training, etc. Then you will have a lot better idea about what is going on. I would never ask a recruiter to contact them. I know the waiting is hard but you don't want to bring any unwanted attention to them. They prefer to stay "under the radar" :-)
I will say that we answer questions as best we can based on our own experiences and what we have learned from others on this site. Things change all the time and I don't know if there really is a "normal" It really is best not to post too many details from their letters. Never post any names and sending a private message on here is the easiest way to share the more personal info with others in your group or division. No matter what what post any thing negative your recruit shares in one of your letters. Sometimes they just need to vent and I assure you they don't want to vent on any social media page no matter if it is public, private or closed. Hang in there, it will get better every week. Just know they are in good hands and will write and call as much as they possibly can. They miss you as much if not more as you miss them. The days drag by but the weeks pass quickly. Please let us know if we can help in any way at all.
Proudmom~That is awesome!! So lucky for you, and them! What are they going in as?
Sharbear~He will want to read your letters and when he does, he will know you havent received it and work to do something about it. Have some faith :)
Proudmom~ Phooey is what I say too! Wait- both of yours went in on same day to BC???
