Proudmom and Em'smom- My son's birthday is August 11. I'm sorry we will all miss these milestones, but that just gives us more to celebrate 9/7. I thought I'd take him his present then, but they can't take anything back on base. We are going to have to make a trip to Pensacola or have his stuff (computer, phone, clothes, etc.) shipped down there.
Lala- My thoughts exactly. Think he would like an obnoxious dancing and singing frog in his card? His division's first opportunity to write was apparently yesterday, though so I guess I should cut him some slack. I'll wait until Friday to send it. :) But I really hope they have uneventful birthdays as well.
Good Morning ladies! Liked the info about cutting out carbonated drinks to lose weight. I gave up Cokes back in 2008 and it is so true. Believe it or not, even Diet drinks can put on weight! Some of my weight-conscious friends have found this out.
I was never one to buy Cokes for the house, but would get one when I would go out. Hard at first to not be tempted to get one when out, but now...no temptation at all. I feel so much better and the weight came off too!
He did the kaiser diet a lot...which is what the navy told him to do :)
Hubby lost 80 pounds to join, very proud of him!!
I'll never forget the meal the recruiter had my son eat before MEPS because my son was underweight. He's 5'11 and was 138, I think. He needed to be 141. He was trying so hard with these weight gain things but he just has a very high metabolism. He had to go to McDonalds, eat a double quarter pounder with cheese and extra cheese. Fries dipped in mayo(although he opted out of the mayo) and a chocolate shake. His friends came over and brought him oreos(his favorite). We were watching a movie and he was on the couch, on the floor, sitting up, laying down, he was so full but it worked. He had it come back off again but with some good PT he put it back on with muscle. He was very nervous about it.
Sorry I confused you Proudmom0f2 :-) My son is going back and forth now between joining the Navy and becoming a police officer. He needs to loose some weight first and he isn't quite motivated enough to get it done just yet. His sister is our Sailor and she had PIR in July 2010. She was married during A-school and her husband left 4 days later for boot camp so we have two Sailors as well. Who knows maybe 3 in the future :-)
Barb, I LOVE your attitude lol. That sounds like something I would say. I would write him and tell him you better get that pen to paper if you don't want a singing card for your birthday lol. I bet there would be a letter in the mail very quickly.
Happy birthday to all the recruits who will celebrate during boot camp. Here's to hoping it is an uneventful birthday :-)
