N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends".

jordans dad:  Great to have you on here to help with the lingo!

Everyone, as far as phone calls, no, they do not just come on weekends so keep the phones handy, as CatMom suggested.  Even when stepping out to get the mail....calls have been missed during these few minutes.

Not sure if those in this PIR group have been allowed to write letters yet?  Has anyone received one other than the form letter?  They usually can't write until after about 2 weeks....they must get the Recruit Mail Petty Officer trained first.  They usually receive their "held" mail on a Sunday, and can mail out their own letters Mondays.  After that first mail delivery, they will receive mail M-F.  But they still can only mail letters to you on Mondays.

Hi SoCalNavyMom!  I write to my SR daily.  Just a few paragraphs - essentially a summary of the day's activities.  I'll include a photo or two (I'm always taking pictures) of stuff that I find interesting if it fits with 'the discussion'.  When the letter gets to be the appropriate weight for a regular 1st class stamp, I stop there, put it into an envelope and out it goes. I continue where I left off.  I used to do the same thing when I was deployed at sea years ago.  I'd write a little each day, and then when it was time to pull into port I'd put the letter into an envelope and off it would go.  I think this way it helps keep them in touch and gives our loved ones a little touch of home.  Some things I also include are popular news items or other things that may be important since they're essentially cut off from the world.

BTW my SR is onboard Ship 3 (USS HOPPER) Division 367.  USS HOPPER was named for RDML Grace Hopper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper) - a computer scientist who, at her retirement, was the oldest commissioned Naval officer.  An Arleigh Burke class destroyer (DDG-70) is also named in her honor.

Hi Moms (and hopefully some dads are here too :-) ).  I've already connected with a few of you via FB so some of you already know "me".  My son is currently going through RTC - I took the same journey as him 29 years ago.  Please reach out at any time if you need help understanding the 'lingo' or the ratings, or if there's anything that this old ex-Navy guy can offer.  Again, I look forward to connecting with everyone and am here to help in any way that I can.

My sons letter got here today, had my oldest open it for me till I get home to read it.  He is Ship 3 Div 368.  Someone commented that they may be calling this weekend, I thought it would be more like 4 weeks till we hear from him.  Happy day today.
