Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

BTW...Gate 6 Illinois Street entrance is the gate you will use to return your Sailor. I am guessing they direct you to the Chapel parking lot just past the NEX for drop off. But they could direct you back to the parking garage used for the drill hall.

JazzysMom - The Password to access the website to print up the Vehicle Gate Pass is confidential and only your Sailor knows what it is. If you did not receive the form letter but are in contact with the person who did then you can arrange with them on getting a VGP.

If you're not you can still get to PIR by hotel shuttle or taxi or personal vehicle. The shuttle/taxi will drop you off at the entrance to RTC and you can walk onboard. It's about a 100 yards to the check in. By personal vehicle, you can park in the Metra parking lot that is located just past the entry gate for PIR. There is a small fee. Park your car, remember the slot number go get a ticket (the machine is at the entrance of the lot).

Address for RTC?

Well, there isn't a good one that takes you to Gate 8 on Ohio. I tried pinning it on Google maps but get bad directions. So, RTC gives you:

3355 Illinois Street, Great Lakes 60088

This is a building on RTC. GPS will direct you to Buckley and to turn right onto Ray street for the Ray street entrance, Gage 55. This is incorrect and for personnel only.

So, if you are using GPS or just looking at a map continue East on Buckley and you will soon see RTC on the right hand side. The first street after Ray is Illinois (Gate 6), continue past that to the next street which is Ohio. Here is where you will make a right and continue up the hill to Gate 8 The entrance for PIR. If you are parking in the Metra lot just continue on Ohio past the gate and it will take you straight into the lot.

There will be signage and Navy personnel on Buckley directing folks.

I know that's long...hope it helps.

Where can I get the address and graduation password if I don't have it with me?

Hello All!

"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,

a stronghold in times of trouble.  Those

for You, Lord, have never forsaken

CONGRATULATIONS to all the new Sailors and their families!! Safe travels to all to an awesome PIR!!

Remember, PIR is just the beginning of the Navy journey. Keep plugged into Navy for Moms where there are groups for A school, C school, ratings (jobs), bases, ships, states, regional, twins and multiples, and the "Christian Navy Moms" that I am a part of!

Also, the U.S. Navy Recruit Training Command page on Facebook puts up photos from each PIR. If you see your Sailor in a pic or more, you can download it to your own computer by either clicking on the picture, going down to Options and downloading it OR right click, "Save Picture As" to a file on your computer~~
