You are right Tuff, The only thing they don't have to pass again is the swim test. Once they pass it they are done with it.

So sorry I was MIA today, I am a substitute teacher and I had sugar hyped 4th graders to teach all day :-)

Comment by diannep on November 1, 2011 at 6:58pm

Yes, Jenn.  He has to pass all again.  The final PFA is usually within the week before PIR week...They are supposed to call you (scripted supervised call) if they fail it and tell you not to come, they won't graduate.  But they get more chances and most will before PIR, so just keep encouraging them and don't cancel your plans.

Tiffani, you are absolutely correct!

Comment by ABH Mom (Tiffani) on November 1, 2011 at 6:06pm

I think they have to pass everything on the 3rd try no matter how they did on the first two, except swimming, they only have to pass once.  But.... I could be wrong.  (Imagine that).

My son is a cranky butt too when he gets tired so little things might just be irritating him, I remember how hard he was on his wrestling team when they would try to goof around so him complaning about drama might not mean anything, might just mean he is tired.  LOL

Comment by Jenn (Proud AO Mom) on November 1, 2011 at 5:59pm

How weird because when I asked my son about drama he seemed very lo-key about it.  Either he is causing it or he is oblivious to it.  I'm hoping it's the 2nd!

Kendra - did you end up getting a phone call last week?  If not you should totally get a call!  I'd give up one from my son just so you can talk to your daughter - as long as I get a letter.  Looking forward to mail call tomorrow!

diannep - how much before PIR do they have their last PFA?  That is making me more nervous than anything!  And just to make sure I understood - if he passed the sit ups and push ups already he still has to pass them again for the final PFA - he just can't take it easy on those two "events" since he did fine on them a couple weeks ago.  Did I understand that right?

Comment by Ship12 Div 008 Kendra on November 1, 2011 at 5:47pm
I'm ready for a phone call!!! Meg is very mature for being barely 18 and she too says the drama is worse than JR high & High school put together! She said on a scale of 1-10 her DIV is about 6ish in working together. She also says she has managed to stay as far away from it as possible!
Comment by diannep on November 1, 2011 at 4:26pm

AMEN, Cheryl!

On the week/day count, it is different for divisions (except brother divisions who train together).    Thinking that 007/008 are in the 4th week of training (not bootcamp...those weeks are counted differently).

The way they are counted is:  M-F count as the days (1-5)...S-Sun are not counted, nor are holidays (Nov 11th-Veteran's Day).  So....after Veteran's Day, they actually move back a day in their "day number."  If Friday was normally day #3 for them, then it will move to Monday after Veteran's Day.

But don't worry...regardless of what week/day they are on, they get it all done.  The biggest thing is to pray hard for their PFAs.  They HAVE to pass the 3rd one no matter what they did on the first two.  They cannot do BattleStations until this is passed, and they cannot become sailors without Battlestations.  The run is what trips up some...and occasionally the swim/float (which only has to be passed once).

Comment by Ship12 Div 008 (Cheryl -CBs Mom) on November 1, 2011 at 4:18pm

@Diannep- I truly appreciate the RDCs and what they are doing for our recruits... but I'm sure thankful that job is theirs and not MINE!  :-)

ALL: Can anyboday say definitively what week/day they are on now? My understanding is the weeks have 5 days and not 7?  I'm so confused about their calendar.  Can anybody say for sure??

Comment by diannep on November 1, 2011 at 4:11pm
You ladies are so right on target.  Imagine how hard it is for the RDCs to get all of these men/women, all different ages, all different life experiences, backgrounds, goals...etc..."on the same page???"  What a challenge that must be.  But at PIR, you will see that they did just that!  It is truly amazing.  There is the "breakdown" process and then the "buildup" process....then they are sailors!
Comment by Ship12 Div 008 (Cheryl -CBs Mom) on November 1, 2011 at 12:51pm

@Diana- I know what you mean by the difference in age between straight out of high school and a few years on their own seems to be a challenge for CB, too... She said she has to keep reminding herself that she was 18yrs old three years ago and to be patient.  :-)

All, Christina also mentioned that she wants alone/quiet time with family, so other than the meet & greet Tuesday night it's best at this point to not commit us to TG with everyone during Liberty.  Of course she could change her mind and that will be fine, too!   We ARE looking forward to meeting with you all at the Meet & Greet, though!!!

Everyone have a  GREAT Tuesday!!!

Comment by ABH Mom (Tiffani) on November 1, 2011 at 12:47pm

Looking forward to hanging out also Diana.  My son also said that he felt like it was alot of drama and high school stuff, but when I talked to him last week, he did say it was getting better.  I think the Navy has a way to get these kids acting like a team eventually.  LOL.  I think in one of his letters he mentioned that he was so excited to eat good food (like 3 different times).

Happy Tuesday to everyone, tried to win the trivia Tuesday today, got the right answer, just about 40 seconds too slow.  Oh well, wacky Wednesday tomorrow.
