And yes, after talking to my son a few days ago, it sounded like tomorrow is week 3 day 4 and Tuesday is week 3 day 5.  Week 4 starts Wednesday, I think. I could just sense him feeling that they were "rounding" the corner and seeing light at the end of the tunnel.  Your poor son having to do multiple watches at that time of the day.

Diana my daughter will be there as well! I am saddened that she may not come home for Christmas as well... So heart breaking letting ur babies grow up! Haha least she didn't grow up to be a cowboy...

Diana, there's a church in Pensacola called Olive Baptist.  We used to go there.  It's a megachurch and they do a Sunday dinner every Sunday for single military. You might want to give them a call and see if someone would be willing to adopt your daughter for the day if you can't make it down there.

Oh yea! Great suggestions...thanks!  It's looking pretty cost prohibitive to go so soon after PIR. As much as I hate to have my 'baby girl' alone for Christmas - this is where real life begins when our kidlets grow up and out. :-(  I have spring break the end of April which is still a nice time of year there. By then, it's more affordable and her younger brother can come with. If I can swing 2x a year to Pensacola while she's in A School, it's better than nothing.... I love the cabin idea - see my baby and some R and R for me as well!

Diana, There are also cabins near the base (by the naval air museum) that are owned by the navy and you might want to rent one of those.  They're very nice and right on the water, but they book up early.  We've lived in that area a lot and have family in the Ft. Walton area.  I'd suggest a couple of things.  You don't necessarily want to stay super close to the base because some areas can be bad.  Perdido Key is very nice....close and has some vacation rentals, as well as hotels. There are some neat things to see/do around there that time of year.  Should be a fun trip!

check our VRBO (vacation rental by owner) We use them all the time no matter where we go. We normally find a whole house for the same cost or less than a hotel room. We found one in Wilmington in Nov for $65 a night with 2 bedrooms. So we are staying there when we take my stepdaughter to tour UNC-Wilmington. You can also look in the Gulf Breeze area and Pensacola Beach because they are not too far from the base. So much to do down there. Be sure and eat at Flounders at Pensacola Beach. They have great seafood and the best Key-lime pie I have ever had. Yum Yum

There is a Navy Lodge in Pensacola - $62/night
Comment by Diana(PO3/IT3) on October 30, 2011 at 3:56pm

A School in Pensacola question Vet Moms:

Where would you recommend to stay? I found some good deals on Hotwire to include airfare and a hotel..many right on the beach. I'm thinking of going there during Christmas as it looks like my SR (or any in our group) won't get leave during that time. The US Recruit facebook site stated that only those PIRing the end of December will have a week's liberty between Christmas/New Years or thereabouts.  If I can swing it, I was going to go to Pensacola between Dec. 22 and 28ish.  Do they have a Navy Lodge there as well? Guess I could look that up, huh??

Happy Sunday everyone. Hope all is going well. We are just at about 3 weeks until we fly up!

That is funny Macaroni2, most of the recruits love the food. I don't think they get any soda at all while they are there, as least not until they get to go to Ricky Heaven after Battle Stations lol. My daughter said she ate cereal as a desert after every meal. She gained 9 lbs while at bootcamp lol. Mostly muscle I am sure because she didn't look any bigger at all but her jeans were very tight in the thighs. She craved sugar so bad that she begged us to send her an airhead in one of her letters. I guess she thought it was flat and would go unnoticed lol. Of course there is no way I would send one and spread the word to everyone else not to send it either just in case she asked others the same request. She especially raved about the food they had for the 4th of July. Best apple pie in the world. But I guess really no sweets or desserts for over a month will make any apple pie taste fantastic :-)

I hope all our NE friends are safe and warm, snow in October is just TOO Much.

Good morning and happy Sunday everyone.
