OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

So they can't write until next the first week of November? Ugh. I was hoping for a personal letter with in a few days. At least we know about when to expect something.

Just received the Thanksgiving form from my daughter. She wrote a very small note at the bottom saying write me! Can't send letters for another 10 days but I can receive them! Please! Love you all. Made me want to cry!

Funny thing is he only wears ONE contact. Those are going to be terrible glasses. How would I get his contact to him for PIR?
Comment by diannep on October 29, 2015 at 5:15pm

NCNavyMom: If he had contacts, then he would have been issued glasses.  He can have his contacts for PIR though.

Beth:  That would be wonderful if you could adopt a sailor on the SD base.  When my son was based in VA, a lady I met on this site who lived not too far away adopted my son for Thanksgiving.  He really enjoyed that....even drove 2 hrs to get to their house!  He had missed Thanksgiving the year before with us (Bootcamp) and was happy to celebrate it with another family.  When I found he would once again miss the 3rd one, last minute I flew up there to celebrate with him.

Congratulations on all the calls and on (at least one!) recipient of the Adopt a Sailor form.

I believe you'll be facing (or scanning/emailing) those back for approval?

They way it has worked in the past is that the original is your Gate Pass/document to pick up your Recruit. Once you are in the Visitors Center personnel will collect them from you (maybe check ID?) and call out your Recruit to match you up :-)

The have taken pictures of this joyous event and posted on their FB in the past as well.

There is usually photos and sometimes video on the web of the Recruits that are adopted by the community.
