OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

NCNavymom I haven't received a letter or call either yet. I can't wait to get either. Like you just want to know my daughter is doing well and hear her voice. I have been worried she might have to get her wisdom teeth out. Her recruiter said they would take them out there! Did read one of the moms son was getting his out. I write this as I sit with my 17 yr old son waiting to get his out!

I got a letter today!!! I'm in tears! He says he's sleeping on a "rock" lol but he's sleeping. Food isn't awful but he's hungry by time he gets to eat so he asked for peas and cornbread the other day. Lol. Got the Thanksgiving form too. We are coming from Ohio so it's not too far of a drive. 8 hours (I believe). I hope you momma's get a call or letter today. I was feeling down and really missing him so it came at the perfect time!

Hang in there Laurie!  This part is hard for us, the waiting to get there was hard for them.  My oldest son, told me I shouldn't have been so worried and fretful while he was there - that for the most part he enjoyed bootcamp.  He said there was some pain in the butt days, but overall it wasn't bad.  6 years later, he says we wouldn't have traded a single day of boot camp (well maybe the P days.....) but it was a great experience.

I know that doesn't make you miss them any less, but perhaps it will give your heart some peace knowing it isn't as bad for them there as our imaginations make us think it is.

Have a good day and hopefully today will be the day for you to do your happy dance at the mailbox!  It gives the neighbors something new to gossip about!!  :)
