For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Comment by diannep on October 29, 2015 at 7:08am: No, mtg4life. No permission needed from you....he's a recruit for the NAVY now so they deal with your SR! If someone is doing Adopt a Sailor, which means that you would be there for Thanksgiving to have him for the day, then your SR would send you a form to sign and approve....but for the community groups, they don't need any permission from family.

I am a little confused about Thanksgiving. Is there something I am supposed to be doing? I am not sure if I can make the trip. So should I write to give him permission to go with a family or organization?

Thank you so much for sharing. I feel like like I was actually on the call with you. I am so glad to hear all is well. My son is pretty laid back, I just wonder if he is keeping his mouth shut. I am sure he is...he has had enough practice with that..LOL. I know they all sound differently I am excited to hear how My son is adapting. I am ready to share my phone call.

He said if you say those words the officers flip and you get instant punishment. I asked why and I guess it's because they are supposed to respond with finding the solution rather than sitting there scratching their heads. Honestly, he SOUNDS different already.
