N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Any more calls? I love hearing or reading that someone received a call.  I can feel the joy! I am not having good luck with booking hotels.  These prices are up there..higher than my flights.  Anyone else having the same issues?

Jackie:  Yes, 2 scenarios going on for Thanksgiving.  Those with a family member there (pre-arranged Adopt a Sailor) can leave for the day with that family member; Those sailors in the 12/04 and 12/11 PIR groups who have no family there are eligible to be "adopted" by community groups (churches included) who provide a Thanksgiving dinner for them in a community location....they are bussed to these locations and usually there will be some video of these outings posted by the hosting group afterwards for family members to view!  It is a wonderful day for them....and the hosting group members will allow them to use their cell phones to call family that day so don't leave your phones for a second on Thanksgiving Day!

For Adopt a Sailor, a family member picking up their SR is also allowed to adopt one other sailor, same gender from the same division, if your SR has someone he/she wants to bring.

Immediate family members can pick up their SR. Only those with a PIR date of 12/4 or 12/11 are eligible. The SR's will be sending out an application that will need to be completed. I just wrote my son and asked that he makes sure to send it to me since my mother is planning on going up. For the SR's that will not have family up there the community puts on Thanksgiving dinners. Hope this helps.

So I am confused about the "Adopt A Sailor Program" I was initially under the impression he could leave with me for the day. When I read up on it however I know am under the impression that it's more like families in the area adopt sailors into their homes for the day. Can anyone clarify for me.
Thanks!

Ladies:  Always remember that the SRs like to "fly under the radar."  That means that they don't want thick envelopes which they would have to open in front of the RDCs.  So keep this in mind when sending anything in an envelope to them.  Best to divide it up into several envelopes....to keep them from having to open in front of the RDCs.  Yes, they are allowed some piks but probably would prefer that their RDCs not go through them!  Having said that, be sure to send "allowable" piks, if you know what I mean!  :-)

Comment by diannep on October 28, 2015 at 12:17pm

If you want to send piks, it is best to scan/print them on the back of your letters or on a separate sheet of paper.  They have very limited storage space for these items....if you must send actual piks, send them in wallet-size---if the envelope feels thick, they will have to open in front of the RDCs so keep that in mind...better to send them in separate letters to make the envelopes "thinner.".  They could keep those in their wallet then, which most of the probably kept when mailing back their boxes (allowed).
